Don Aronow Memorial Marathon Race Around Long Island
DON ARONOW MEMORIAL MARATHON RACE AROUND LONG ISLAND 18/09/2010
Dean Gibbs wants to run his new Outerlimits boat powered by 4 x Fiat Powertrain in the race.
In initial set up the boat is running 111 mph - so no problem for Dean, Jan & Dave.
A good few of us have booked flights to go over to NY to see the new toy in action.
The more Brit supporters the better!
PM Dean for further info.

So does this mean that you are flying the Outer Limits back across the Atlantic or did it not make it over to Blighty in the first place??
Good luck anyway!

Is this why (some) Americans are so rich? Nearly every time you go on a US site there's someone hacking-in / popping-up and trying to flog you something ya don't want.
Had my "winge" now...

Live tracking of the race tomorrow.
http://www.nationalpowerboat.com/live-gps-videofeed.htm
Will start at 13.00 UK time.
Had a violent storm rip through here last night -may even be classified as a tornado - weather looking hot & sunny but rough seas (8-10' on the Daredevil scale).

Simple answer is No.
Betty Cook won 1978 CTC in a cigarette.
As to the original Michelob Light scarab, there were 3 of them.
Betty Cook also had a Scarab renamed Michelob Light in 1981.
Joey Ippolito had a Scarab Outrageous renamed Michelob Light in 1978,which he trashed.
Then Ippolito had another Scarab named Michelob Light in 1978.
Take your pick.
Black Tornado will be doing cartwheels reading this,so I standby for any corrections.

Don't know what the sea state might be like but the scenery will certainly be varied.
1. Long Island
2. Leave Manhasset bay (2nd or 3rd indent from the western tip on the north shore) on the Long Island map, turn to starboard and run east for 80 miles or so in Long Island Sound. Can be bumpy.
3. Leave Orient Point Lighthouse (NE tip of the island) to starboard.
4. Mountauk Point Lighthouse. SE tip of Long Island
5. 100+ mile leg west along the south shore in the Atlantic to the Verrazano Bridge, the entrance to New York Harbor/Harbour. I'm bi-lingual.
6. Leave Statue of Liberty to port.
7. Under the Brooklyn Bridge and into the East River.
8. Up the East River (go under lots of bridges) towards Hells Gate leaving Roosevelt island to port.
9. Back into Long Island Sound under the White Stone Bridge. The Sound can also be as flat as a pancake.
10. Under the Throg's Neck Bridge and back to the start off Manhasset Bay. 271 miles and you've done it.

Forgot to mention - the Island's 118 miles long and 23 miles across at it's widest point.
