Round Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race 2010

The Round Ireland Event is taking shape nicely and is set to run from the 5th to the 12th of June 2010.

The race will start and finish in Galway and is set to be the highlight of the International Powerboat Racing scene in 2010.

This is a week long festival of everything powerboats and will include the Round Ireland Race for all you big boys out there, the European P750 Championships, a boat show, and a great week long festival in Galway.

It is being organised by the Team from Lets Do It Galway who organised this years Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Galway this summer. The Galway leg of the Volvo race was the most successful of all the stop overs this summer with over 650,000 people attending.

Lets do it Galway are expecting an equally succesful event in association with The Round Ireland Offshore Powerboat Racing Club with over 350,000 expected to attend during this holiday period.

The Harbour in Galway is now famous for it's amphitheater environment which is ideally suited to a display of power of this magnitude. The surrounding harbour will host the Festival and the Boat Show, with near by Salthill playing host to the P750 Championship mid-week.

The website is now being updated regularly and we have added a forum, the Marathon Rules and the entry fees for those interested in taking part.

Entry Fees will be a deposit (non-refundable) of €500 followed by a simple fee structure of €4.50 per horsepower. This is payable in 2 stages, the first by the 31/01/10 and the final payment by the 31/03/10.

The forum is up and running and hoepfully we can encourage you all to contribute in whatever way you feel is necessary.

See www.roundireland.org

Come to Ireland, bring the family, enjoy the activities and surrounds of Galway and challenge the Atlantic shores at speed.

Regards,

Macrib.

That isn't the class classifications. I found that one, actually, I wrote some of it.

I want to see rules showing the class structures, engine capacities, sizes, weights, and the all important regs for multihulls, assuming they're inviting them. (they were instrumental in getting multihulls added to the rules, so one assumes they have such rules in place)

Jon - '3.3' in the above document states: "In the Spirit of Offshore Endurance Racing all competing craft must be Monohull unless otherwise agreed by the race organiser."

OK, thanks, but as I understood it, the RI mob are keen to allow multi's, hence their support at the UIM for them. So, the 'race organiser' might well be agreeing to allow them, but as far as I know, there have been no rules written for them yet.
I reckon before anyone parts with any dosh, it would be only fair to let all the monohull drivers know what they're up against, so we need to see some 'specific' class rules, including those relevant to Multihulls.

Multihulls for RI2010

Jon,
yes, great news, we are allowing multihulls into RI2010.

We will have the classes up on the web site tomorrow, so apologies if your kecks are in a twist, happens to the best of us and comes with age.

On the multihull front we are taking the view that the Atlantic will level the playing field quite nicely and that its the competing and the Irish hospitality that will register highest in peoples priorities.

Having said that we are proposing to create separate classes for Multihulls which will essentially mirror classes A, B and C Sport for Multihulls.

Ireland is open to all, fees are priced to be fair, and if you've got the b..l's we've got the beer.

And yes, RI Mob will do nicely.

More on the website tomorrow.

Macrib.
I don't see it as great news, so I assume you haven't read any of my posts.

If you don't get the rules right, or should I say, if you don't f*ck them up as little as possible, given your choice to go down this route, and give those who have already spent considerable sums of money on competitive mono's, thinking the rules were to stay mono only, I think you'll find Irish hospitality alone, won't be enough to draw those racers into your event.

Actually, it's not your place to decide how the multi rules will work, that is the remit of the Union International Motonautique.

Good luck with your entries.

What difference does it make ?? Everyone is in their own class anyway so it just makes for more classes.

Ri2010

The Round Ireland Offshore Powerboat Race 2010 is a new event and one which we hope will be a great success and great fun.

We are thankfully not perfect and I am sure will make a few mistakes along the way. That said, plans to date are advancing very well and we have lots more to do.

The classes are always going to be a touchy subject, but to be fair to Multihulls we feel that a separate class structure under which they can run is the right approach. It is one which should see some interesting racing and advance the whole powerboat racing scene somewhat.

We agree that Mono's and Multi's should be defined separately but not at the exclusion of a whole group of people who would also like to race.

There is room for everyone and RI2010 would like to welcome you all.

Regards,
Justin Mc Inerney.

Hot Lemon are unable to resist the temptation of a race so I reckon they'll be there!
