The Cowes Powerboat Festival 2009

Dvd?

Absolutely fantastic photos!! Are there plans for a DVD this year like last year?

40 seconds in................huge air, close shaves and some nice language emphasizing how close that was........turn the volume up for maximum effect

Thaaaaaaats some fun racin!

Whoever Martin is he looks like he had a good time :devilish:

And that's still in the Solent! We need some of the footage from beyond the Needles. It was more interesting out there.

Interesting but appropriate comment at 1.17!

Some great pictures from he event and well done to all those who took part.

Cheers

Royal Torbay Challenge Cup

I have had a rather nice email from Mike Lloyd this morning confirming that we were awarded the Royal Torbay Challenge Cup for first boat to Torquay.

Although we were too late back for prize giving on Saturday evening following our drama in Lyme Bay, Mike is going to arrange with Laura Levi for us to receive the trophy at the Prospect in the near future.

A big thank you to Mike and all at the BPRC for a great event, and we are already looking forward to next years' event.

Team747 perspective

Thought I'd just like to add my thanks to Mike and the team for a great event. Everyone in Team747 had a great day and was very pleased to be involved in such a fantastic experience, even if we are total amateurs!!
From our point of view it was a tough day out. Although the Fairey Spearfish has a great ride and seakeeping reputation this is in cruising terms where it excels. When you start pushing beyond the normal cruising regime things harden up considerably. Derek Wynans the MBY writer who came with us and who experienced plenty of different rides on RB'08 insists that the hardest days were on Miss Daisy. I think this just shows what a hardy bunch the early racers were!! It's certainly a good job that they built the early GRP boats like brick s**thouses as they weren't sure of the engineering stresses then. We had plenty of airtime including one where we counted to 3 before re-entry, not pleasant when your landing platform is hard plywood!!
I really hope we'll see the Historic class expand in the next few years. Although we are generally last in and not quite as glamorous as our modern counterparts I think it's important to acknowledge the heritage and history behind this great event.
Looking forward to next years 50th anniversary celebrations.
Best wishes

Trophies

Just like to say the "Smillie" clan had a great weekend and what a great result for Team Cinzano, and a great job doen to Mike and team. Just one little comment it would have been great for all Trophy winners to be able to keep trophies for a year and bring back next year as if i remember right (but then don't quote me) that is what used to happen:) Claire

The rule regarding trophies was made before last years CTC - if you remember in '08 Cinzano won the King George's Fund for Sailors Seahorse Challenge Trophy.

The reason behind it was after the '04 event it took Martin Napier nearly 18 months to chase up all the trophies, which isn't good if you are trying to present them 12 months later.

Yes i do remember that John and i believe that not everyone should be tarred with the same brush with regards to bringing trophies back! Claire

you should be able to keep them for the year ,nice to have something to show for your efforts

people did in the past.i know i did,if you want to keep it for the year maybe leave a deposit on it,just an idea

That would be a great idea and i know that team Cinzano would be happy with that.

Let’s have no more of this. Cinzano received a small but important Trophy apart from the normal CTC winners “Silver” and it was appropriately engraved from the BPRC. All teams did. What everyone forgets is that we did not have a sponsor for this great race and therefore there was only a certain amount of money to go round. It would be very nice to give "everyone" a trophy but financially it is impossible. Also what is forgotten is the fact that the Trophy is for the boat, not the crew!!!

I know I was just saying if it is possible. I didn't say you should.

I agree that the trophies should stay in the safe keeping of the BPRC and that to award everybody a trophy would not be financially viable but how much would a Certificate cost ? at least the award winners would have something for their efforts that they could display if they wanted .......... just a thought
