Subject to official confirmation - Buzzi first, Keracoll second, Fury 3rd. More pics to follow. TimTap's pics will no doubt be up shortly! Keracoll lost their liferaft which may have a bearing on the result. Mike Bontoft broke two ribs I believe. Uno Embassy windscreen was smashed. John Fuller looked like he had hypothermia!! It was one hell of a race!!!! Speeds down to around 30 knots at times. A real test of man and machine.

Ok , so here goes !!! Have not had time to sort the pics out but here's the link to em !

Further to that, the result sheet did say fury second but there are the usual protest meetings etc etc so the official result has still to be confirmed.

Martin Lai's boat is back on the trailer with some interesting damage !!

Don't say me that,Nigel!
I just finished watching (and download) the picture of timtap and in some shots seemed to have gone back at least thirty years and more!

Big V Cowes results

Fantastic photos from all the loyal snappers and we are all very thankful great enthusiasm from all who posted.

I know I am going to get lynched for this but how can the loyal supporters post photos on the web within hours and yet all the official outfits can not put out on the web even a provisional results list.

I have google searched for the results and the rya, bprc, cowes island info and copoc do not have the results as of midnight.

Cowes online seemed hopeful as the headline stated that buzzi wins until you realise that the info is for 2008.

I know you are all probably having a lovely gala prize giving but surely some one could do a short provisional list and put it on boatmad where we could all see, it would not take long.

Some of us had to work today and were not able to go and watch or come to the island.

If this sport does not encourage any form of outside interest then how do you get future competitors, volunteers, safety boats, sponsors or just plain old spectators / supporters.

Will there be a 51st Cowes it is not looking likely.

This is a great disappointment as my family previously competed in class 2 & 3D and I would have liked to consider competing in the next few years, I guess we will stick with the car racing they do at least have their act reasonable together.

Big V Cowes results continued

I am sorry to have a moan and as you can see I do not post my opinion very often but it is only because I care that I do now.

From the info that the loyal snappers have posted the competitors have had a very hard race today similar to the race when Alberto Smania won in the 80's.

There is little reward or recognition for these guys who are going to go and race in poor conditions when they risk breaking very expensive kit and maybe some bones, so surely a little immediate web support is not a lot to ask for them.

After all you can see from this afternoons posts that photos are not an issue, just a small 15 line race report and results list.

Through the web on great sites like this I believe that the CTC could possibly return through a form of classic mono-hull status return to the fabulous days of the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

It is a unique event which with the potential rough weather and smart navigation gives a chance for 20+ year old boats like Buzzi's, Cinzano, Martini, Bounty Hunter and Uno Embassy a chance to beat modern rigs like the Fountains and Outerlimit hulls.

This revived interest in the CTC has happened for the 50th event but do we all want an even better 51st or is this it.

Competitors like Mike Bontoft who brought Martin over from the US shows that there still could be a future do not let their enthusiasm lapse.

P.S. what ever happened to those lovely Beken calendars. I had one every year when I was a kid and I looked forward to the CTC every year so that we could get next years calendar from the Beken shop.

.
Absolutely right, but in this case what I would say is that our 2010 CTC director always bends over backwards to get the results out within hours of the finish, even provisional,so he either crashed under a table or is tied up somewhere (and rightly so).I expect the protests are screwing things up.

Well done Mr.Ciao for the past 12 months of hassle (including my course bitching),you can now have a real rough classic on your CV.

I guess you could say that us snappers are anoraks (I can hear the 'speak for yourself!' quips) who just want to share with the rest of the world our joy at having witnessed the spectacle.

During my time at the Marina I met a great couple of people who run this website - http://www.luvmyboat.com - all the way from New Zealand! I suspect that they were possibly the first to post results anywhere on the globe. Truly passionate about the sport and about getting word out quickly - the internet is a platform they have embraced wholeheartedly.

What makes you say that? There are protests and the officials won't release any results until they know what they are (I personally think provisional results are fine, but it's their choice), but I honestly don't understand how that makes the 2011 Cowes race unlikely?

As I understand it, Cowes 2011 is looking very positive indeed.

Roll on 2011.
