This week's progress...
Started to get the topside prepped for paint this week.
First up was to grind back the glass repairs I did last week, this went very nicely leaving a lovely smooth, flat surface. I'll have to give these a once over with gel before paint.
Next up was to start sanding the rest of the topside. This went faster than I expected with an orbital. I've gone over everything with 240 grit at the moment to cut through all the crap all over the surface. I'm pleased that the surfaces seem very flat and true, Revenger must put a lot of time and effort into their moulds!
Yesterday I started removing all of the little holes I'm not going to need any more. I'm planning on her looking very clean and clear of clutter, so all the cleats etc are being deleted. She'll have an all over cover, so the hooks aren't required, and I've also done away with the rails running up the bow. I can jump up and down on it, so it can't be that weak, it's made with a 10mm blasa core! If I find it needs something I'll use some of the drilled ally angle as found on Phantoms, looks much neater.
I've left a lot of holes for things like vents, through hull fittings etc. They may not be in the perfect place for me, but I'd rather make as few repairs as possible and live with the location of bits so there's less repairs to potentially pop back out!
In case anyone wants to know, I filled the holes by re-drilling them to fresh glass, countersinking the top quite wide, then running a flap disk over the top to really feather out the edges. That way the filler has the highest possible amount of surface area to adhere to and there's no sharp edges to crack out.
Next up is gonna be to prep the engine hatch and make a flush hatch for the bow, should be simple enough. Hoping to get some time free after christmas to really crack on with it.
I can't believe how fast I've been able to progress with it lately, really hoping to be ready for paint mid January so I've got time to flow coat and rig for the new season, it's all getting very exciting!
Cheers, James

Thanks for that Jon!! Nice to have another photo of her from back in the day, especially before the stickers! I'll add it to the collection.
Shelly's looking pretty good in that photo too!
Haven't had much to report lately, just still sanding. She's going in for paint at the end of this month, then it'll all start to come along fast!!

Paint time....
Hi all, it's been a while so thought I'd better put in an update!
Moved the hull up to 'chop-chop's' workshop last weekend as it's much easier prepping out of the damp and with proper equipment!! I'm very lucky that he's allowed me to take up so much room for a couple of weeks and I'd definately recommend anyone over here wanting paint goes and speaks to him!
(that'll be ten quid please matt!)
Anyway, it's not been that exciting, we got her off the trailer and onto the worlds diciest trolley and I cracked on with the DA and a billion pieces of 240grit paper! The colour difference on the bottom was quite shocking! Thanks very much to Paul E for his help with the sanding, even when hungover!
I am glad to say that she's amazingly straight. I've had no issues at all with the topsides (which are very well built with balsa & foam core), and the hull, which has been hacked about every way possible, has held it's shape perfectly with the help of a lot of scaffold boards!
Here's some sanding pics...

Yet more glasswork!
Plan was to just leave a few fittings where they were rather than go to all the hassle of moving them a few inches. Well, they'd get in the way of the graphics I've got planned so I decided to do the right thing and glass out everything but the fuel filler...

Playing around with graphics...
We had a spare moment the other day so had a play with some tape to see what we could come up with. Plan is to just use wide pinstriping to accent the lines, I don't want big brash graphics all over the boat.
As she's fairly classic looking and with a big blower motor in the back, I'm looking to have a bit of a hot-rod look to her. Painting will be done this week, I can't wait!!
If anyone has any great ideas or inspiring pics for the graphics, please let me know!!
That's all for now, James

There's so many variations of scallops, but that's the kind of thing that would look super bitchin on yours I think. I might fire up photoshop....

That 'rod is EXACTLY the look I'm going for, been trying to find a pic like that for ages!
As for the photoshop, that's the idea I'm going with but just a bit different, I wouldn't have the reverse scallop right at the back. We're on the right lines though, may need you there to help when we mask up, looks like it's gonna be matt masking now rather than stan as we'll be doing it one night.

There you go I made it better
I'm up for helping you mask it up, I can ask my brother if he wants to come up too? He's more handy with the fineline tape than me.
That rear one isn't quite right, but I think you'll have to have something there as it's a pretty major styling point of the boat, and the whole thing about scallops is that they flow with the car's own lines and highlight them

Good News!!!!!!
She's painted!! Well, kinda!
The bottom is done and the top has had 5 layers of yellow. We're now going to flat her back before applying another two to get her really perfect!
Suffice to say I'm absolutely over the moon already though! Finish is absolutely out of this world, like she's made of glass! 2 weeks of prepping her in Matt's workshop really has paid off!
It's all go from here, can't wait to get the interior coated and start rigging!!
Cheers, James

Thanks very much guys!
Ginger - Any bits other than a thin skim were ground back and glassed properly while I was glassing over old holes etc. Any remaining bits were then skimmed with high quality multi-purpose filler as used in a bodyshop.
I'm sure krestomer or someone make something stronger but I've never had an issue with normal filler before as long as the surface is well prepped.
Cheers, James
