Am i a Closet environmentalist? Judging by the toys i own probably not. However as an irresponsible human being i am aware of the damage mankind is causing to our environment and it is with this in mind that i seek ever more economical ways to damage it.
Unfortunately, its that "easy ways" mental attitude that got this world in the ****ed up way its in today.
Where did the "Easy Way" man get? Nowhere!
I would bet my last Sterling that the technology is and has been available for some considerable time.
Consider this, The oil companies make vast profits from producing oil & whilst it is in demand, they will continue to do so. (How do i know? Cos we supply them the specialist nicol alloy pipes and fittings for their refineries in the Middle East).
As a business, they must look to the future, and what future is there for them when the oil reserves are depleted? Alternative energy, thats what. So how do they invest in their future? By buying up all the technological breakthroughs and then shelving them thus protecting their current business interests.
Mr. Y invents a gadget that makes the internal combustion engine 30% more efficient for the same given power. Now he has limited resources and has spent his lifes savings inventing this gadget. What are his options? He will need to find a partner in order to produce and finance this product, he will need to patent his invention and then enter the daunting world of production and sales (an area of which he has no experience). His patent is applied for and is immediately brought to the attention of certain industries that constantly monitor Patents in order to protect their interests. Those Industries then contact Mr. Y and make him a substantial offer for his gadget without him ever needing to enter the risky world of business ad production.
Mr. Y retires to Barbados happy as Larry. The industry shelves the gadget for use at a time when it will prove more profitable (like when oil is really rare and those with much money are willing to pay vast sums for this Gadget in order to still be able to use their luxury motors.
If you research the motor industry you will see that things like windscreen wipers, heaters, heated screens, heated seats, the electric horn, alternators etc were all Patented long before they were ever offered on a production car. The motoring giants like Ford and GM bought up all the patents cheaply and then sat on them until they were required to be introduced to boost Sales.
If Sony are going to produce a new media Format for Digi Cams they tell the manufacturing
industry and all the smaller electrical companies will provide additional features and benefits for that product.
Sony then buy these patents up and then release their product. Does it come with all the bells and whistles? Bollocks does it! You get the basic product but with new format and then when the customer has become aclimatised to the new format they release the new model with the bells, closely followed by the model with the whistles, thus keeping sales moving and extending the lifetime of the original product.
What the **** am i going on about?
Anyway, i guess the point im trying to make is that there are many ways of skinning a cat (sorry puss), and we should keep an open mind.
