Coniston Record Pictures

Great Pictures, really good to see them, thank you. You know the funny thing is that when you look at them we all look to be really high in the cockpit, going down the kilo we all ducked down, Eric could hardly be seen, Marcus kept his head down and I only peeked over the dashtop to see where we were going. I called the distances to the run on the intercom.
No doubt Marcus will have something to say in his report soon, so I will leave it to him, but we did one run at over 104 MPH in quite choppy conditions.
With a tip off from Vee we managed to get the "Monohull immersed prop" speed record at 103.25MPH avearge from Howard Wretham who set it at about 96.
I am sure that Vee will lift that figure today if he gets some half decent weather.
Great few days, well worth a visit. Run on a shoestring by a really dedicated bunch of volunteers who made us all so welcome.

Some images of the Wednesday record attempts can be viewed at the link below.A mainly dry day but little sun(where i was stood anyway) with the wind dropping in the afternoon saw a few more boats than yesterday making attempts.I hope you find them of interest.

There are some of the records set so far on the link below.Thursday conditions looking out of the cottage window are v windy and wet so not sure they will be beaten today, although the wind is forecast to drop later.

Thank godness for The Westmorland Gazette, otherwise those powerboat racers breaking world records might as well have signed the official secrets act for all the information coming out of the Lakes.

Whilst I have no axe to grind with the RYA Powerboat Racing Manager having a few runs himself, why wasn't the RYA Press Officer up there as well, (Yes she does exist) or was she too busy writing about 'Young Sailors making a splash at Salford'?

This is the only time that racers from both offshore and circuit get together to compete, a perfect opportunity you would think to help promote the sport, especially in what has been a very quiet week for sports news stories.

Alison Whalley, Chair of Records Week, said 'We’re very proud to have been running for 40 years – it’s quite an achievement in this climate to still be breaking records.' Probably no thanks to the RYA.

It's Rob Mcarthy's with a large outboard converted to run inboard with (I think) an Alpha drive - I think he was going for the inboard immersed prop record but that has gone up a bit now!

I assume that if its got the L&S stern jack, bernico must have rigged it with the parts from a previous 19 that I think had an OMC 3.0L block running as an inboard

Every chance of being back next year with the 34' marathon boat!

That's the one Chaos - a V8 I think - it's going nearly 100 now, just needs a new fuel pump if I have heard correctly!
