I raced against Ian from the beginning of my racing career in OCR and again in Class III - one of the original Birmingham Navy, and a nicer bloke you could never wish to meet in or out of powerboat racing, I lent him my gearbox several times for Coniston sure in the knowledge it would always come back in one piece.
RIP Ian - you will for ever be remembered as one of the good guys!

Can I add my codolences to Ian's family & Friends too ?
Also to the race officials who have to deal with such a sad situation.
As has been said - Ian was a true gentleman, always modest & a true sportsman too.
A priviledge to have known him - RIP.
Martin.

My god couldnt Ian drive a boat, i will never forget his stunning performance at the Guernsey 3C World Championships in 2008 where Ian won the second race in style, and the advice he gave to me on how to drive my B23 was priceless. Thank you Ian and rest in peace, it was a pleasure to have known you.

Like a lot of people, my first ever race was with Ian, then was lucky enough to have him put up with me as his nav for 5 seasons. The most genuine guy i have ever known, a true legend. Rest in peace Ian, gone but never to be forgotten

It really was an honour to have known Ian and to have raced in a boat with him. There will never be anyone as well loved, respected or missed as him and I wish more than anything that we could turn back the clock. I have never laughed so hard than when he was around. I am so gutted and lost for words. RIP Stir, thank you for introducing me to what turned out to be the best few years of my life, I will miss you xx

A hugely talented powerboat racer and inspiration to us all. Having had the privilege of knowing Ian for 20 years, he always assited me in my powerboat racing career from junior OCR to Offshore racing, whether it be a fatherly push in the right direction or lending me props and equipment. You are and always will be a legend. RIP mate, forever in our hearts.
