There you go Gringo...we need armchairs in the boat...make it more comfy in the start runs! + somewhere to place your guide dog! And I could have a Parker Recliner OHHH YES!!

PS Great initiative Bob...it is perfect time for racers across classes to come together.

I'm sure there could be plenty more out there who either don't follow boatmad - or do not post on boatmad.

If it can all be launched with a positive, new and combined attitude then the future is really good.

Also needs promoting elsewhere - and I would have thought it needs magazine coverage etc.

In Sweden the "new" national classes V50, V115, V150, W150 and V300 increased the amount of racers. We race with standard engines, no tuning is allowed.

It’s pretty cheap; there are many used engines and boats that you could use.

Ex,

V150:

Frode 21 Merc 150 XR6
Hotshot 21 Merc 150 XR6
Phantom 21 Merc 150 Optimax

V300:

Frode 21 Merc 200
B23 Merc 200 XRI
B22 Merc 200XS
V24
Phantom 21 Merc 200XS

The W150 is a very good beginner’s class for catamarans; it’s basically a 3C boat with a 150hp engine.

With these classes it´s pretty easy to start racing, it´s also possible to buy a bigger engine and continue racing with the same boat in a bigger class.

Henke,
Good positive post.
In the last few months it appears that most countries have recognised that we must move towards rationalising powerboat racing into fewer, more affordable, classes, which allow more racers to race what's they've got, or what's available.
Powerboat racing is on the decline everywhere, even though some classes are currently disguising their numbers, which is unsustainable.
The real solution will be found through greater cross border discussions, by racers not administrators, simplification of the rules and bringing back affordable fun as the backbone of racing.
Tomorrow, a group of us Brits and Maltese are off to the Paris boat show to meet with the French pilots and in January we are off to Oslo to meet with the Norwegians. The objective is to find out what racers want, what we can achieve and how we can share 'best practice' to achieve it.

Any specific classes as this seams to be a common thought of yours???

Also is it not the job of national authorities to do the cross border stuff via UIM, at least thats wot they're paid to do, where as doing out of your own pockets can be un-sustainable too...........

UK powerboat racing does have a future and wot Bob has done here is great and those who have shown their support aplauded. 2011 should be the start of things to come
