I hope this helps....

565.34 – PASSING MARKS
When trying to overtake a boat on the inside, the pilot must anticipate the possible direction of the boat he is trying to overtake and must take all necessary action to avoid a collision.
I. When passing a turn buoy and an overlap has been established, both boats must maintain a safe distance from each other and from the turn buoy.
II. Once an overlap has been established the overtaking boat must give the overtaken boat room to clear any course markers

We have the world Championships on 4th - 13th October 2013 at Pentewan Sands in Cornwall and Surf at Watergate Bay... You are all most welcome to join us ... Everyone welcome to watch the racing and have fun. Entries from Russia Germany South Africa New Zealand Ireland France already said they're coming even before the entry forms are sent out... Should be very exciting.

clear as crystal. So the black boat never had right of way due to the fact that he was overtaking on the inside and thus in a way kind of a deterant to using such manouveres?

I disagree reading the rules -

It looked to me as if it would be very difficult to establish who is the overtaking boat as it looked like neither boat was clear ahead at any point - as others have said the camera angle can deceive therefore the above would apply and it certainly appeared that the blue boat tried to cut the black boat off.

blimp, i think you'll find that the people posting things with animosity and bickering are friends of the driver of the black boat, they are quite right in defending their friend. one can only presume they are trying to get a rise out of me in the vain hope of making me look silly. i asked the opinions of respected racers on here as i couldn't make my own mind up in who was at fault in the crash, nothing more nothing less. i did not and will not get personal or cast aspersions or throw around rumours or accusations.
remember rules are rules and they need to be followed for safe, competitive racing

Rules are there for a reason tho cannot be applied to every circumstance, racing is racing be it land or sea and its a matter for race direction to decide this particular outcome and that's the only opinion that's worth anything
