I'm staggered that they're only 15k as complete packages. Our ITS/Bravo XR's were 20 odd K (GB£, not US$) + vat.

Yes, and you know what 'Assumption' is don't you....The mother of all ...
Transom might well be fine, but lets face it, this 35 year old boat, hasn't run for 15 years. I'm in the process of ripping out the timber from ' Warlord' 's transom to replace it, as it's rotten.

I think if you look at the complete package which do all that then the ACE system is a like for like i.e. gearbox, transom shields, the whole hog.
Very nice but I bet you'd fall off your chair if you got a quote for them.
This PRS3 system is just legs really albeit the highest rated ones.

The "deal" is for the 540 drives on the TRS style gimbal, which look like the big spec, just mebbe not the sportsmaster style lowers - which he may or may not need. So he could go with the TRS style package, or just the basic 540 with gimbal package and get nice, shiny, new, reliable transom assemblies too.

Warlord is a little small/narrow for twin Illy's....
and, what a waste of money that'd be.
new boat, new materials, new kit. those three things go together very well.
The reborn Warlord will be a budget project. luckily, only one of everything as well.

When the boat was built it had 2 Westlake big blocks motors and stagged at 18ins centres and the standard stagged mounts are made for 18ins centres, the stringers in the boat are set up for 18ins centres and still are as far as I can see, if the fuel tanks are back in the back where they sould be you can only fit the engines at 18 ins centres. When I fitted the Sabre's I did not move the stringers but I cut down the centre one, I made the mounts to fit the stringers and the Sabre's.
The Sabre's fit side by side with the step up off set box's 4ins that's how you get 21ins. The Sabre's are 1200 pounds each. The photo is how it looked with the Sabre engine's.

I see, so with the sabres, and their step up boxes 'swung toward the centreline' (is that what you meant) what centres were the engines themselves set at?
You gotta love all that two stage turbocharging & intercooling!

Wrong again on See Post 17 below.. No mention of testing
Not wishing to pour cold water on your thought Jon but..... This is a very interesting Thread so to end this hilarity I draw your attention to:
Under the Thread A Good Curry
I would draw your attention to the following Audit trail:
Post 16 By Matt - "So, when's the planatec gonna be ready then?"
Post 17 By me "Still on original completion date end May this year, am thinking about repairing the Scarab and calling it "Short Sleved Shirts" think it would make a good Long Distance boat"
Post 21 By Matt -"I bet you 100 quid to the charity of your choice it won't be running by end of May."
Post 27 By Matt -"So we're agreed then. Your boat running by end of may.
Not motors running on the shore
Not sitting stationary in the water.
Don't try and play any silly word games."
Post 36 (Conditions of Wager) By me -"Right...
The Wager/Bet is.....
£100
Conditions are:
Pash 1 will Pay to the Charity of Matts Choice the sum of £100 Gift Aided if the boat known as Double 2 Shirts a Planatec 41 is not :a) running on both engines
b) capable of both forward and reverse motion under the power of the said engines without being tethered to any shore based restraint.
c) Floats without the assistance of any artificial devices
Matt will Pay to the Charity of Pash 1's choice the sum of £100 Gift Aided if any of the above stipulations are not met by sunset on the 31st May 2009
Any amount to be paid will be paid in full on the 1st June 2009 copy receipts to be posted on this website.....
.....
|
Not being a lawyer or nofing clever, do not the above conditions mean that you both pay £100 if the thing aint running. now call me dumd if you like, but that's not the point of a bet is it?

I've only just seen this line!
Martin, it's not me who's embarked on a hopelessy optomistic project! and when you PM'd me ages ago to ask advice before buying, I warned you it would cost a small fortune, and asked if you were sure it was a suitable project for you...you chose to buy anyway.
So don't go getting snotty with me because it's turning out to be exactly what I warned you it would be. whatever budget you have in mind, double it. that's how boating always is.
Big offshore racers are a costly pastime, and like an old porsche, or ferrari, the cost of a given part is dear, whether it's for an old low value one, or a new 200k jobbie, it's the way of the world mate.
Why don't you ask Jim how much it cost 21 years ago to re-rig the planatec, or how much Dick Strutton spent with him putting his Cougar 46 together 24 years ago. I think you might be mortified.

The Sabre centre's 29ins just a little stagged you had to always take out the starboard engine first to get at the port engine. RHS was even tighter you had to remove the intercoolers.

In all fairness you did mention him nailing together old parts with no acknowledgement to the fact that he was in fact using top quality galvanised nails at somewhat greater expense than drawn wire.

The first one TigerShark the 46 you had big problems with bolting the engines down you couldn't get down the side of the motor it all had to be done from the top, you have seen how the engines when into the boat, the took a long time to rig that boat.
