CTC 1970! I know this picture.
But I prefere this of two Black Tornados togheter. It happened two time at Wills Trophy and at Naples Trophy (the picture) in the same year. The 89 for Cosentino in 1971 was cutted and reducted at 31'. Balestrieri run with it few races. In the 1974 Al Sahlman with the same boat renamed The Little Cigarette set the new offshore speed record at Marina del Rey.
The Pascoe Watson's Double O Seven-Avenger went in USA with Tommy Sopwith after Deauville victory to challenge Black Tornado in a famous controversial end of the season.
Note the 400 instead the usual 007.

Funny en it here we are 35 years down the road and guesswhat this years Class 1 was a rulebook pi**ing contest bit like then really all revolving around engines. Nice to see we have moved forward (turbochargers, rant, scream, complain)
Questioning my own memory now where did 007 burn out, certain it was a northern French race. end of season I'm sure

Dat Aint Portland for sure.
If its Anvil point, Wash from preceeding boats is the wrong direction for the location racing line will be taking you inshore tight to the coast at the light house not out to sea.
Got a more Solent feeling. Bit of local knowlage help here guys please.......

I´m open to be blown out of the water on this one but I reckon that Gill/Franz shot may be somewhere around Yarmouth with the coast in the background being just west of Lymington?????

The location I dunno I got a looking South towards Osbourne bay area , creeping sneaky feeling but not sure, Lyminton is pretty flat all the way past Hurst till it rises at Highcliff.
an overnight thought was possibly Kimmeridge / Chapmans pool as the coast tails away on the correct course but the old lighthouse isn't on the coast and that Jurassic outline isn't there.

Not. Is the CTC 1975. There is Pangare' Gringo that race in England only that year. Gill is at the first year in I Like It Too.

Deauville was the last race in Europe in 1970,like tradition,in that years and 007 won with Tim Powell.
The former 007 now 400 with Sopwith, burn out in the last race,Key West in november.

Limit Up, Satisfaction & Tolman Is just passed the poole Fairway mark, Swanage bay in the background & the the headland is Handfast point.
Alitalia looks like portland but it's I suspect after the bill and just passed Pulpit rock. Giveaway might well be a tight inshore line that a lot used to take to keep out of the tide race. can make a big difference that 100 yards (meters sorry) extra out to sea. Cosentino isn't it?
