Having yet again ruptured the internal rubber engine mounting system in the new Steyr's (we asked for 'solids', but didn't get them) and given the workload (real work, for paying mortgages etc) that we have over the next few weeks, I think it's highly unlikely we'll be attending the South Coast Marathon I'm afraid.

Sundays race was quite punishing.

Sorry guys.

Result of damage..... they lose a bit of oil!

We also finished with 100-odd gallons of water in the bilge, as it appears the impellers fell off the bilge pumps (they make the right noises, but no water moves) which slowed things up towards the end.

Weymouth/Nab/Weymouth Race 25/6 Sept.

Can I have confirmation please - which day (Sat or Sun) is race actually planned to run ?
Are you using the new Portland site as race base ?
I intend to be there - AP would be appreciated in due course please.

Thanks for that confirmation Tony.
The AP is somewhat ambiguous, in that it states 25/6th, & then only gives 25th in the body of the document.
I intend to be there, ( now on the Sunday am.),
as stated previously.
I can assist if needed, in whatever duty I can.

Am I looking in the right place for information or do I have do look through this entire thread? UKOBA's website?

Ideally I would like the definitive course and date along with any race instructions that may be floating around - or is that too optimistic?

Thanks,

Does that answer all of Cookee`s questions?

What does column 1,8/8 & 10/8 actual translate to,and where is it found,on the UKOBA site?In which case can you spell it out before my brain goes into meltdown.

Then again the definite course (if available) could be tapped out here,or is that stating the obvious.

Weymouth - Nab - Weymouth. Can`t be that simple surely.I would imagine Fairway Buoy would have the paint taken off it yet again.

Column 1 on this thread on boatmad Graham ! (8/8 & 10/8 are dates !!!)
I assume it is meant that one takes as near a staight line as possible, via St. Cats. & back, retracing outward course.
No mention yet of detail at start/finish though !

How many miles?

The entry form is available to be downloaded above, we are still building the boat and will enter as soon as we can confirm we'll be there - we still have rather a lot to do!

Excitement isn’t the word. We at UKOBA are VERY excited as we look forward to September 25th & 26th – Race days for the UKOBA South Coast Marathon running out of Portland Marina in Weymouth.
It’s sometime since we as a club have run a race. Back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s we were the premier club for running powerboat races in the U.K. with up to five races a year. So now we have been working hard behind the scenes to put on what will be the last race of the season for Marathon Boats in 2010 and it’s going to be a beauty..
The course is set to be a classic. Setting off close to Portland Marina, within Weymouth Bay, the boats will head off South towards the East Shambles Buoy then turning East towards “Two Buoys” just North West of the Needles, passing that they will then head off round the South side of the Isle of Wight, taking their own line, passing through the over falls off St Catherine’s Point, round Ventnor and running up and out past the Nab Tower before turning South and heading back round the Island, across Poole Bay past close to Anvil Point to the Portland finish line. This will be just over 130 miles of tough offshore conditions. There is no protection from the elements on the South side of the IOW, there’s nowhere to hide so it can be rough and tough so a true test of boat & crew as with the CTC. Don’t forget, there will be no safety boats out there except at the NAB turn marks.
This will be a true Club Corinthian race, no frills or fancies, just great company and great close racing. All crews can meet up on the Saturday night at the “The Boat That Rocks” a huge Bar and Restaurant within the Marina.
Any and all information will be put up shortly put up on the UKOBA web site at [URL="http://www.ukoba.co.uk"]
Boats intending to take part so far are:-
1. Overlord
2. Cinzano
3. Fury
4. Silverline
5. Going Lean
6. Mr Noisy
7. PPG Print.
8. Warlord.
9. Going Lean2?
10. Apache/War Horse
11. Grey Ghost
12. Carbon Neutrol
13. Relentless
14. My Pleasure
15. Hot Lemon
16. Amaryllis Racing
17. Banashark Racing

More info to follow soon.

I'm afraid it's another race and another deadline missed - can't be helped I'm afraid. We also have issues with regulations as far as partial canopies are concerned, it seems that when the rules were written they didn't envisage a boat like ours!

To keep it simple partial canopy = optional harnesses, air and dunk test, we wanted to start with no harnesses, air and dunk test for a couple of reasons, but it seems if we do that they MAY want an extra hatch above the front seats or even insist on harnesses.

Not going to blame our missing the race on the above - we would have struggled anyway, but we read the rules and built the boat to the rules .............
