Provissional rules for 'Marathon' Racing.
OK, these are the provisional rules as they stand. not yet set in stone, but please, we already have enough people expecting to get them altered to fit their particular boat, which simply isn't going to happen, so please don't ask.
There will also be grandfather rights for boats that took part in the RB08 and Cowes this year and rules used for those races, ie, single engines and the lower length limit previously set, but ALL new entries into the series will need to conform to these new rules. Measurement certificates will apply with this series.
Grandfather rights will likely run for 3 years.
Details are yet to be decided exactly, but the intention is to have basic level entries as well in the UK races using 'event licences', but obviously no points will be awarded towards the series. Only boats fully registered as Marathon class entries will collect championship points.

The RYA have agreed a very good price on UK Marathon racing licence @ £250, to cover the full series (hopefully at least 4 races), a very welcome help. Minimum 2 full licence holders per boat required. So Dr Vadas will hopefully be busy doing medicals in Feb (he is definitely the way to go for medical certs, as the RYA doctor, he knows whats required, and is very reasonable on the price)

Minimum weight in M2 is 4500kg i guess thats the dry weight. Can i ask why?
I fully understand not overpowering a small boat thats light however our example is
Our boat weighs 3400 kg approx dry and only achieves 70mph it would mean carrying 1100 kg of ballast then we would have to carry approx 1000kg of fuel in a 33'6" boat. not sure how she will handle ( not sure i want to know )
Stepped hulls are much quicker than non but as proved in RB8 our boat was very stable.
Only my opinion as its not set in stone.

Barry, your boat is probably very light (and small) for class, as you say, and, a bit underpowered for that class (remember M1, M2, M3 are intended as out & out race classes, with no limitations on engines, other than capacity/corrected capacity) so if put against a boat built for the rules would clearly be at a disadvantage, especially given the weight issues you've pointed out, but the rules have to be writen to control what 'could' be built by someone with a large budget to be within an inch of what's allowed.
For you, the grandfather rights will be your saviour, as I think you'll be able to run 'as is' for the 3 year duration of the grandfathering clause..

Thanks John. Must admit i would have a different boat built now if i knew what i knew now. (eh did that make sense )
Hull design and drives etc as proved in RB8 some ribs had less hp but 20mph more speed.
And i'm not that old to be called a Grandfather

Why only 2sepa outboards
Why are we only allowing 2sepa outboards - would exclude 2.5 efi and xr2's for instance is this a typo or specifically aimed at restricting to direct injection 2 strokes only?

I think your missing the point here, they don't want dirty smelly motors that don't conform to EPA. (enviromental protection agency)
Although it does make you wonder how they can then allow something as nasty as a 315hp Yanmar, which must be one of the dirtiest motors out there!

i thought these engines were approved by UIM till 2013 for racing, presumably RYA have to work under UIM guidelines, Race engines are excluded from EPA regs anyway.... and even a 300 promax is less dirty emissions wise than some of the big diesels... (especially if you have 4!)
As I said, I hope it is a typo - as this would exclude a readily available, cheap, easy to maintain and reliable power source from the competition.......

Interesting…good to see that it’s coming together and the fees are at a reasonable level.
For M4-M8:
Are these classes now only for dual engine boats?
PRODUCTION ENGINES/SAME TURBO, presumably this excludes the goldfish version of the Yanmar4.2?
NO OUTSIDE MODIFICATIONS: does this include the engine mounts?
ONLY HYDRAULIC GEARBOXES: Not sure what this means, is this relating to the operation of the clutch? Presumably what intended is to exclude crash boxes?
Are there any updates on the old closed/open canopy issue?

btw. Hydraulic refers to 'shiftable' gearbox's, as apposed to 'crash' gearbox's.
Mounts would be 'free'.
Don't know if the Dmax has a different turbocharger, if it does, it would be excluded from M4 and would I think end up in M3. The rules won't please everyone, that's for sure.

I think the D-max has a modified version of the std turbo?
Can you sheed any light on if M4-M8 will be dual enignes only?

if m1,2 and 3 are for out and out race boats which class does a production xs fit as it has 2speed boxes all be it they are standard fit
