Was just asking the question what qualifies as a motor cruiser. The XS was built and sold as a pleasure boat and has been developed into a race boat, so wanted to know if there was a 'production' type class amongst the list. M3 was our initial thought, but wanted to check.
With regards to the 'win win win against 50mph boats', see you out there

Carbon footprint in RB8 had about 6 mph more than us with the smaller engines so yes i expect your boat as a M3 Class boat will win and were in M2
Its not the winning that counts its the taking part say some.
I can only do so much with the equipment i have, just ask the Misses

I thought the old rules where good suiting most and getting a great number of boats at the start RB08, also allowing single engine lower budget racing which suited us. And proved successful for many also getting new blood into the sport.
Why not make the top class unlimited hp no weight limits why confuse it keep the big spenders in aswell as the smaller boats it worked so well in RB08.
Many 50ish mph boats have won won won
Only my thoughts
Hope to be there next year

Might be me being thick but I can't see anything in what Jon posted saying no single engines.
Admittedly the typical powerplants column leads you that way but is there anything to say you can't run a single big block chevy in m4 for example?

In truth it's only 4" I need which I had contemplated asking you whether I could borrow but that would leave you seriously short

Talking to Jon at the boatshow he confirmed that there is no class for the single engined boats to fit into - reason being safety and the fact that on the long distance runs there will be no specific safety cover.
However there is grandfather rights for the single engined boats fom this years RB08 and CTC.

Is the single main engine with a small outboard for backup no longer allowed then?

These rules - like 'em or not, have been built by two guys who understand Offshore Powerboat Racing.
Go over to the P1 website and see what rule changes they have for 2009.
Don't bother - total nonsense.
If Buzzi and Fuller designed these rules to cut out competition, they would never had put the "grandfather" rule in.

I don't think anyones knocking Ciao, just looking for clarification.
Think the Revenger is out (which won't please Mr Lloyd) so might look at using the XPS. Same hull form and all that

Unlimited
and if anyone asks the reason why there is not an unlimited class, Buzzi has seen a customer lose his life racing at over 100 mph.

So are you saying Buzzi has written the rules?

I got the impression that this is not going to be allowed, distances being to large for a small wing motor to be used to get you out of trouble.

As Jon appears to be out of the country right now I will answer some, but not all of your questions in his absence.
Re the formation of these rules: We sat down with Fabio, who has in my humble opinion, like it or not, greater depth of experience in offshore racing than anyone else I know except for the possibility of Tim Powell, for many many hours, took the RB08 rules and brought them up to date specifically for Marathon Offshore Racing and with a view to them being used Internationally by the UIM hence we removed the single engined boats. It would appear that is not going to be the case for the time being, the UIM adopting these rules that is. These rules will therefore apply only to the Brits. Therefore it is certainly my intention to discuss with the others the possibility of bringing back in single engined boats for the British Marathon Racing scene as per the original RB08 rules.
It is also obvious that there are a few glaring errors which have been pointed out to us by yourselves, no one is perfect, these again we will discuss shortly. We did say that these were provisional rules and rightly so until they have been agreed with the RYA. I certainly and I am sure the others do also consider it extremely important that these rules are good and fair rules as they will affect everyone for the next three to four years.
Give us a few days on this and we will post again.
ML.

Fair comment - Back to those non EPA clip-ons, Rather than exclude non EPA why not control the 2 stroke oil thats used, there a few 100% bio-whatever so no harm done. It's all cuck anyway we are coming out of an Ice age really
