Thanks Petter,
The castings are actually quite good the problem lies with whoever ground the flash of as they seem to have dug holes everywhere and removing them all to get a ripple free finish means you have to drop the whole casting face to that of the deepest hole, it is taking almost a day per side...

Looks good and i can appreciate the hard work and effort, I have been meaning to do the same for a while now, but would they be faster through the water as a smooth polished surface or with pits and dimples?

Looks like Ilmor did no prepping after they arrived from the foundry sand blasted. Just machine and assemble.

That was a big job but looks great

That's what we need to do with Cinzano's drives ! Probably worth a MPH ...

How many times have these drive had to leave your place to Ilmor UK or to Ilmor US?

Hi daren,
At last i have finished the drives and got them onto the stands ready for making the tie rod brackets. As far as the surface finish goes i think a very good finish rather than polished seems to work very well and it is also repairable very easily when you get damage from debris in the water, i have tried all sort of prop finishes on the current Cheetah from highly polished to satin shot peened and i have had better results from the shot peened finish, the downside is i have to take them back to work after i have repaired nicks in the outer blade area.

It's almost going to be a shame to put this thing in the water when it's done! Great work once again Peter - glad I'm not paying for your hours on this one .............

Hi All,
Laser cuts arrived for tie rod brackets and i have now ground a radius on all corners and linished them ready for polishing after the rest of the machining work is finished.Had a bearing fail in a water pump in the old Cheetah coming back from Poole so i took them both off and have given them a complete overhaul, some of the parts aren't available so i have had to make thrust washers and while they were down i have improved the flow into the water pump, should also help with weed hangups.

Hi Paul,
The carbon fibre lever underneath the steering wheel is connected to the hydraulic steering valve by a control cable which was installed at the same time as all the other controls and in the event of electrical failure i can maintain control of the boat with the lever, push it to the left it will steer to the left, to the right it will steer to the right.

Well spotted Geoff.... Whenever Carolyn & I visit Aquafax to pick up parts for the boat it has always amused Carolyn when we have seen it on the shelves so i couldn't resist the practical joke, but it is also extremely good at stopping impeller burn when the water pump is higher than the water level on initial start up.

P.S. Your tabs are coming along nicely

It looks a similar colour to the Quicksilver teflon grease.

Hi All,
Had a bit of a disaster the other day drilled the holes for the tie bar mounting brackets unfortunately the designer and patten maker must not have been singing from the same hymn sheet as the area where i drilled the holes which should have been solid turned out to have a cavity, so i now have to make externally and internally threaded inserts which will be epoxyed into position to seal the area as it connects to the oil galleries, the upside is it will make an even better mounting than the solid aluminium.
Also been working on heavy duty trim cylinders for the Arnison drives on Banana Shark and Blast Off these will be manufactured from thicker walled tube with greater overlap and longer glands and pistons.
