Hi jw,
It's a great feeling knowing everything is being installed permanently Been working on the steering transducer installation, have made two aluminium adaptors machined at an angle to align the transducer shaft with the top of the gimbal bearing. The drive is transmitted to the transducer via a short piece of hydraulic hose and although the transducers are waterproof to 2 metre submersion i have mounted them inside the bathing platform. Also had a mockup with the transom shield covers to establish where to drill the holes for the transducer drives and also cut a split in them to allow easy installation.

How are you going to seal the transducer shafts to avoid water getting in?
I can only imagine what it must be like to be screwing her together once & for all as it were. When do you hope to have her on the water?

Hi Alacrity,
The transducers are submersible to 2metres and are mounted about 300mm above the waterline at rest so will only get splash and there will be a rubber deflector on the shaft underneath the bathing platform, where the shaft passes through the top gimbal bearing, i have machined each end of the bore for a quad-ring seal and the cavity is filled with water pump grease so should be totally maintenance free
Should be testing in the spring time slightly dependant on work commitments.

Hi James,
I've always been an optimist but i can always adjust it if necessary. We would definitely like to come to the Geurnsey powerboat week
Installed all the hydraulic hoses for the trim and tab pumps, also fitted the trunking across the bathing platform and the battery leads along with the battery isolators
Wishing you and everyone on Boatmad a very HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

Hi All,
It's been another busy week.. Collected the exhaust parts that John and Gary from Bengco welded for me. Had a mockup on the engines, i made a dome ended punch to create a depression in the collector and the tailpipe to considerably increase the water flow. I am also changing the pipework slightly to equalize the flow into the bottom of both headers. The port side of the engine has an extra cooler which causes a restriction, also tested the hydraulic steering valve and set all the pressures ready for installation.

Hi All,
Removed the headers from both engines so that i can modify the water piping to improve the flow. Also dismantled the throttle control system and drilled and tapped extra holes in the operating arm so i can choose the ratio, the nearer to the pivot i mount the cable will result in less travel of the throttle levers.

Hi All,
Installed all the through hull skin fittings. All the pipework has been warmed with a heatgun to allow me to push it on to the ends, as previously mentioned this saves the cost and weight of hose clips. I would have used 35 on the bilge pump and drainage system so the saving is considerable. Also fitted the hydraulic steering valve and some of the hoses. I am preparing the engines for reinsatallation and have wrapped all the vulnerable parts in cling film to give protection.

Hi All,
Finished off the last of the bilge pump and cockpit floor drain plumbing, also installed the fuel lines beneath the cockpit floor up to the bulkhead.

Hi All,
Fitted the bulkhead closing panel along with the fuel delivery and return pipes down the central hog, i have secured the pipes to the hog with heavy duty cable ties cut to the correct length drilled at either end, i have then used self tappers with a cup washer to secure them, very light and secure method of fixing.

I have been watching this project right from the start and have loved every post and picture.
At last I have found a fault and therefore suggest the whole project should be scrapped and the boat burnt.
In picture 1 on post 433 you have splashed some paint on a black plastic pipe.
Regards
Mark

"NOT GUILTY YOUR HONOUR"
That particular pipe was installed at the factory prior to the fuel tank being fitted, so i need a very small volunteer to come and clean it of!!

Hi All,
Got lots done over the past week or so most of the brackets for the wiring trunking are now fitted along with the port engine bearing housing and universal joint. Have applied two coats of epoxy paint to the rest of the engine bay, Have also filled the engines and gearboxes with the correct fluids ready for installation.
I am going to fit a carbon composite panel in front of the starboard engine up to the bulkhead to give me a level walkway, i will also make a composite step to make getting in and out the engine bay easier.
Should have the engines installed permanently in a couple of weeks

Hi All,
Decided to drop both engines in today wasn't quite planned this way but some of my rigging parts are late in arriving and it was beginning to delay the whole project. Working round the engines is a little more awkward but i can now make some real progress
