I think it's a good idea, but a downside might be that an RB competitor might bugger his boat on leg 4, or 6 or similar, and be unable to sort things in time for the Lowestoft>Portsmouth leg and subsequently be out of the running for the national Marathon series championship.

Just my tuppence worth........, or is that a step too far?

RB11 meeting @ Drivers

For those that could not attend, or didn't have a large enough notebook to write down the details - Here is a link to Deans presentation on Saturday.

So you can watch old ladies in the bathroom again?

Must send a note to Dean regarding press accreditation for 2011.

I'll be sending my personal assistant, Mohammed Goldstein, in my place

To get back on topic- I'm not sure I understand the "2 leg" race. Is it going to run alongside the "traditional" route or is it meant to replace it? Or is Dean just throwing out all the options?

The two leg format looks really nice!
A bit like last time. One leg to England and one leg around .

Yeah, but Mikko, you 'wimped out' on the return leg!

The "adventure" format looks very interesting. It would make it much more of a strategic challenge, but might favour the likes of Mike Deacon too much for some people's liking!

They would need to sort out a properly robust and tamper proof tracking system though.

Would start time at Inverness be exactly 48 hours after arriving in Oban?

Derek...... You've got me thinking now can format 2 run simultaneously with format 1..... ermmm...... might be an event organiser nightmare.

The other option discussed by a few people after the meeting was format 1 up the West coast, then we all leave Inverness together and have the East coast as format 2

Discuss

ATB

Dean
PS...... Yes the plan was exactly 48 hours after entering Oban, you get in at 6pm... u leave at 6pm to run for 1 hour or wait for the next day,...... wouldn't get far in an hour with the 5knot speed restriction on the Moray..lol

There was a vote and the vast majority want option 1. As i understand it that is the only race

Yep... that's correct

On the day there was a show of hands

24 didn't mind which format the race was in however...

8 preferred format 2 & 30 preferred format 1

At the moment we are moving forward with format 1

The other item discussed was Bangor with a WRC/Dakar style 'no service' set up except by the crew in the boat with the tools/spares they carried. Outside assistance would result in a penalty. Promotes cost down with no service crews having to go to Ireland... & gets the team engineers a trip in the boat!!!

Not really. Checked the oil in the drives when arriving in Lowestoft. Just foam and water in the right drive!

No spares left and 6 min from third place so I filled up with new oil and burried the throttles. We had some six min up to third place...

There was not much left of the lower gears when I opened the drive back home... But we got third!!!!

Sorry Dean, I didn't mean to mess with your head!
In my very humble and uneducated opinion, I'd be wary of trying to offer too many options though. I've always found that the more choices people have, the more arguments break out (although it's usually worse with women in my experience!)
That said, I think it's excellent that you're willing to look at other options & think outside the box!
