Doubtful at best.

When Bulman and Tobert did it a few years ago we had all sorts of problems coming back up the Thames in the Sunseeker support boat.

We had to slow to 6 knots, PLA told us the reason was our wash would cause problems with House Boats.

Last time I think the London Calais was run was in 1992 - Sadly even that year they had to cancel the Chanel crossing and turned it into a "rally".

The majority of us took the hovercraft over to Calais for the evening shin dig, and left our raceboats in Ramsgate.

Richard Carr decided to go across from Ramsgate in his Class 1 Cougar cat, if memory serves he did it in 21 minutes.

Marinautic - the reason is that we have a very tight window to get the main race away. To even get a start of any type at Tower Bridge in the first place is quite an achievement and the Port of London Authority have been fantastic with their support on this ....along with the great work done on our side by Richard Carlton. Trying to squeeze additional classes of boats into that start location would just be too much to ask ....hence the suggestion of a join-in further down river. Who knows ...if this year's Prologue goes well, all of the stakeholders might be delighted to see as many boats as possible shoot under Tower Bridge for the biggie in 2014

I reckon a few V24's would sound good if we could get them to join in at some point as well!

I understand, but that's assuming you have a full entry list, if not, you might be grateful of a few more classes.

The reason you would have been told to slow is because of the wash with house boats. I doubt you will ever see speeds through the bridges evwr again because of damage but from west india will be the best chance like the last london to brighton, was the sunseeker call shaken not stirred by any chance?

If i can help on any thames info give me a shout.

The Sunseeker didn't have a name, it was brand new boat that was shipped out to the US a couple of weeks later.

Fortunately, we had UK to US adapters to charge our mobiles and lap tops.

In the eyes of the organisers. We always seemed like the naughty children, should be seen but not heard. Any one remember when we were shoved up in Lallows yard?

Yeah I understand the new class rules for 3c Cliff and Scotty's done a fantastic job, but all the other boats can run in non UIM World or Continental events for their class and there are plenty of them out their still..

CB1 - not in the eyes of these organisers!! We aim to be as inclusive as possible. Details will be out in the coming days which will allow as many people as possible to be a part of this year's event.

For the interest of many, please can you kindly define "Sportsman" & "Cruiser" classes, which are outside the recognised Marathon Class structure ?
Many thanks.

Teams - The entry forms for this year's Venture Cup prologue have now been emailed out.

Alice - sportsman class is a 'catch-all' class to cover any boat wishing to be part of the event but which doesn't fall into existing marathon classes.

Can one assume that the "Cruiser" Class will, similarly, include all/any cruisers able to maintain an average speed of ??? , & not covered by existing classes ?

Martin, We have had lots of interest from boats that do not fall into recognized classes. There is still some work to be done to ascertain exactly what equipment boats would have to carry and how/ if they would need licences but there may end up being some sort of "rally" to accompany the race, or they could enter the race with full licencing.
As I say much to be done, entries starting to come in now, which is encouraging, fees are a little on the high side I know, but its our firm intention to give back any surplus either in benefits in kind or possibly prize money. Unlike others we are in this to get some racing done, to have some fun and not to live off it ...
SIMON.
