NEWS post & pic on RB8 web site today
June 12th.
During the meeting Alfredo Altavilla, FPT CEO and Fabio Buzzi, FB Design CEO jointly tested the Red FPT boat at 93 mph powered with four N67 – 450 Evolution units upgraded to 600 horsepower.
One would assume that they are not the lifejackets & crash helmets to be submitted at Gunwhalf

Carl, I can confirm that the 7.30 am Briefing is for the competitors only.

When all the talk of a new Round Britain challenge came up, I didn’t think it would happen. I am so pleased I couldn’t have been more wrong. There are a few hard core people that were pushing uphill for so long until the crest was reached & things started to take off.
To coin a phrase “never have so many owed so much too so few”

Guys have a great , memorable, safe race.

558 £20.00 each way. 471 & 100 are gonna be knocking on the door. RB3 that’s a close call RB4 JF & nick could have the right combo but be pushed by RIB International Magazine. Think the rest of the class there could be outgunned on those really snotty days
Soft spot for Xanthus as that has been a start/mark/rescue boat for so many in the past.

Thanks for that BluFin, much appreciated. Just a couple of things. I have written elsewhere that it has been mainly the competitors who have made this race work. Quite a few of the original guys believed in this race from day one and started buying and rigging boats before the race was a certainty. It was because of those guys that I kept going. Also, whenever I asked them to dig deeper to pay for the race they have done so and everyone in my team owes them a huge vote of thanks because this race has cost most of them dear. It's their money however that has made this race happen.
No one person can really claim the credit for this race because so many have contributed to it but if I had to mention anyone I would mention Annie and Rob Beakhust and Richard Salaman plus of course my two colleagues Peter Myles and Alan Goodwin. Pillars of Oak all of them. John Moore of course has done a brilliant job with the web site and will carry on doing that all the way through the race.
Also, the RYA have been hugely supportive and solved so many problems for us. Not a popular subject on Boatmad I know but they have frankly been just fantastic and have come up trumps every time.
Lastly, the following was a conversation I had recently with one of our competitors from abroad which just about sums up the RB08. "This is a very British Style Race Mike, only the British would put on a race of this magnitude working on a shoestring, hardly any money, no one being paid any salary and no prize money. It wouldn't happen anywhere else in the world but it's one of the reasons why we are taking part".
That's a quote I can live with.
ML.

My feeling is that this could be the last time we see 48 offshore race boats mored up in a uk marina.
For any fan of the sport - take next Friday off - get the kids out of school - and come down to Gun Wharf Quays!
There are loads of places to eat and plenty of shops for the wives!

I know Andy's boat is quite fast but I'm not sure we'll make the start line for Saturday if Marine Track can be believed!
