There is a meeting, as posted here, on 15th for competitors.
Sorry, if it came across rude but fed up with people not being positive about
RB08

Over on the 'other' thread, the organiser announces to everyone that I have withdrawn from the event!

It is quite clear. If you want to get the news you need to READ it on boat mad, because you will not get it via private communication with the organisers!

The first I heard I had withdrawn was when I read it on the boatmad forum - posted by the event organiser. I had not even discussed withdrawing with my crew, my boat builder or my support team. I was planning to do so this weekend actually. Yet - aparently - the event organiser already knows the outcome of the discussions this weekend, and has decided to announce - publically - on my behalf, that I have withdrawn.

So - I am supporting BLIND-DOG's view point - if you want to actually know what is going on, there is only one thing to do aparently...

Well Tricky you are still officially an entrant on the official RB website so I would not moan untill you have been deleted from there ! I would think it was just a simple mistake by Mike and he mistook you for another entrant.

As I have said before stop taking things personally, it is very entertaining reading your responses but it all seems to be reactional as opposed to any rationality or thought going in to it.

I appreciate that you are passionate about the sport as is everyone else on Boatmad but you do seem to sit on the fence and try to provoke a response with people who give you their honest opinion from thier own past experiences. Perhaps your arguements would be better directed at the people who make and administer the rules rather than those giving you advice I am sure everyone would be behind you.

Hi Woody,

The post on the other thread was personal and I reacted to that.

The people making the rules for RB08 are 'OldMan' and the others, and they are the ones who specifically banned canopied boats, and intend to ban them for the CTC race as well ( if they get to run it ).

The answer was simply:

On the second part - I am activly involved with the RYA at this time, both as our club representitive, and as part of the V24 Organising committee. I am working 'inside' the RYA system to make changes.

The people who made the no-canopy rule is not the RYA it is 'Old Man' and his team. What conserns me is they intend to impose this rule onto other races that I would like to do in a canopied boat. And I can not get an answer from them.

FACT "old man" did not make the rules he is having to run the RB08 to the rules laid down and worked out for the race by the RYA and ALL the idiotic sub committees and the chief scruitineer so as I have said repeatedly on here stop stabbing and slagging Mike Lloyd/"old man" in the back...............BACK HIM AND THE RACE OR GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY, preferably in not so many words.
Also Marc you asked me and other our opinions of how we could get the sport back on track. When we reply to you PUBLICALLY on here you bugger of and have no more comments.
You seen to enjoy loading a gun standing back and let the rest of us stand up and be counted and fire it for you...................

Who is 'WE' paleface?

I only see you sprouting your single minded 'stuck in the dark ages' crap about how good powerboating was in the 70's and how we have to abandon everything done since then and return the to rules of the 70's ( I can show you your quote if you want... )

However - As per the above quoted example, there was no answer forthcoming to a direct and simple question regarding allowing canopied boats to race in another possible race that might possibly be organised.. 'Old Man' is worse than Gary Manchester defending Hotboats! But you feel fine to rip Manchester, but not 'Old Man', who is worse!

On a more pleasant note, those of you who are competing might be interested in hearing that that I have just had an email from a RB3 competitor Dean Gibbs who is, as we speak, trolling his boat around Oban, up via the Caledonian Canal and checking out Inverness. He's then on his way down to Edinburgh to check out the course there. He is having a great time. I admire hugely someone who not only has confidence in the race happening but is willing to spend his holidays checking out the course to try to get an advantage over the competition. That sort of positive thinking and action is so much more enjoyable to hear than endless negativity.

Although its 4am in the morning and I am on my way to Lowestoft I thought that I should drop you a line Marc and apologise publicly for causing you offence recently. It was unforgivable of me. You will have to take into account that you are dealing here with an "OldMan" who is becoming increasingly stressed and "scratchy" as he tries to get some 70 teams across the start line in next years Round Britain.

I would like you and your team to come to the Drivers Briefing next Saturday 15th and listen to what is said and make your decision then as to whether you want to take part or not in what is going to be just about the biggest and toughest offshore powerboat race to happen in this country for 24 years. I can assure you that if you do take part, when you cross the finish line you WILL be able to argue with the best of them about the merits of canopies, open top etc etc as you will have actually done it.

I look forward to seeing you there.
ML.

That's good news.

I'm told that the entrants voted in a 5 man committee, who were they?

Round-Britain race teams have voted unanimously to increase entry fees from £5 to £10 per engine horsepower in order to cover a shortfall in funds. Some crews will now pay more than £10,000 to take part in the race, which starts in Portsmouth in June 2008.

It's all gone a bit quiet here though. I thought there would be a bit more excitement!
