Latest Info
Lot's of movement on the RB08 site.
Have capped entries at 75. All potential new members are going on reserve listing. Reason? A lot of the Venues can't cope with that number let alone more boats plus that number x 3 (crew) makes for race control difficulties each and every day let alone scrutineers re-fuelling etc.
New company Big On Results appointed (Martin McDonald of P1) to work on media, TV, sponsorship etc etc.
Alan Goodwin has joined the team from Honda to firm up the venues. He did that for Honda for four years with great results.
Web site changing to emphasis Sponsorship potential for this huge race which will benefit the teams entered.
A lot of enquiries coming in from the States and Italy but they will have to go on reserve listing like everyone else. Who would have thought that we would be full one year before the race starts?
Me, at nearly 68 I am taking a couple of days off, never worked so hard in all my life!
ML.

I was talking to a guy on the Isle of Man this morning who informed me that the Ministry of Tourism is looking into the possibility of adding a leg to the RB 2008. A trip around the island as done in previous events.
Better plan on 12 days now lads!

You up to your old tricks again Turnip? We were only talking to them this week and there wasn't a word about that, unless of course your man is Head of Tourism out there? As far as they are concerened the course is still NO to round the Island, basking sharks are delicate creatures!

Anchor & Rope
Average depths are around 70 mts on the west coast lot less on the east coast.
So runners & racers if may pay to just tag on another 30 mts onto the mimimium required.
Nothing worse than droping a hook in anger and it aint quite long enough, especially if you drifting the wrong way.
If weight is a problem then cut 30 mts off it once into the North Sea.

Not quite sure what "old tricks" you are referring to Old Man?
Simply stating what i was told this morning here in the Isle of Man. I did not say that it was definate, in his words "There had been a meeting about it this week", his view was that they would be up for it! Sorry if im pissing on your fire, perhaps i should not participate in this Forum anymore?

Come on Blufin, I'm surprised at you. If your engines died in the Bristol Channel 30 miles from land in 70 mtrs of water would you really think that you should drop your anchor? Of course not, that is why they are carrying sea anchor drogues.

What is laid down is a minimum standard as required by the Race Regs. Which is sufficent and the RYA / UIM norm. The individually may add to the 50 mts if they wish to do so. Teams choice.
Far to many variables when you are out at sea to come up with hard and fast rules and apply them to all possible scenarios. If one had a longer line it increases the available options by plus one.

Not at all Turnip, all information welcome and all criticism welcome, always interested in what is said on Boatmad. We are looking very hard at the Isle of Man and will be paying them a visit shortly, or Alan will anyway. It's difficult there as it's a commercial port and we might have a problem getting in and out when Ferries are moving and that couldn't be tolerated if a boat is in trouble. We are also looking at Bangor in Northern Island which is much more accommodating but the distance from Milford Haven to Bangor is huge however, I think most of the boats could make it. If you look on the map it's quite a daunting trip but will add to the adventure. It's just a thought in our heads right now as we look at other options.

I raced in OCR a few years back in Bangor - Tiff Needel navigated in a Phantom 18 / XR2 rig! - the hospitality was second to none, I just couldn't believe how much all the locals genuinely wanted us there, especially with it being so close to Belfast, it was a real education for us!

It would be tragic to loose the Isle of Man ( I remember taking part in the tram tug of wars!! hillarious..) but if we can not have the round the Island sprint how about going to Bangor then on to Oban????????????? Kill two birds with one stone so to speak, I was in Bangor for the worlds and it was amazing...........

Nice mate! Tried to get me dad to buy that when we first heard about the race.
What are you going to engine it with?
