I hope to run Mercs so i am hoping to do a deal where a dealer will support say 2 or 3 teams to bring the cost down.
We will take some of our own equipment aswell. gas barbi, fridge etc.

What is the normal expected mechanical failure rate on a C-T-C run? These boats have to hold together doing this each day for over a week. Chances are the boat running well within its rev band and just holding its own with a fast last leg has a better chance of winning than the fastest most highly tuned rig blowing out on day one.
And oh my word NO GPS, in 1969 didn't an Italian team go 11 miles up the Liverpool Manchester Canal thinking they were in the Caledonian Canal. Anyway this could not properly be policed these days buy the scroutiners as GPS's are on watches, mobile phones let alone a small hand held in the back pocket.
I take my hat off to all of you guy's doing the RB and I'll be following the race as closely as I can as financing a boat is out of the question for me.

Don't rely on the fact that there MIGHT be back up manufacturer's support. In this race you and your team are on your own in the same way as if you were racing in Cowes or anywhere else. You will have to find your own back up support facilities and logistics. Everyone will be in the same situation. We will provide and organise the cranes, fuel, which you pay for, and berthing but that's about it. Oh, and thinking about the V24 fuel incident, I would advise everyone to put locks over their fuel caps. It was eventually a recommendation in the 1984 RB as those who took part will remember.

Seems to be some movement on the RB08 entrants site. Where has John Puddifoot and Miles Jennings gone?
Also Jeff Hunton seems to have changed his mind. He is listed now as running in RB2, interesting stuff.

It will be rather sad, if Pusseyfoot 'swooped' in, got the rules changed to suite him, Deacon, and Strickland, then 'Swooped' out again!

Old timers, they won't appreciate me calling them that but they are, Tim Hill and Bill Bonner are looking for something like a 40-45 foot Cougar mono to take part in the RB08 in which they can fit three of Bill's 600hp engines. Does anyone know of such a boat sitting idle somewhere engineless and waiting to be fitted out?

Richard Carr's old Cougar 41 'Breathless'/'Lethal Magic' is sitting in Southampton, engine-less. It was last rigged with triple C&G V8's on MK6 speedmasters, so it has the right number of holes in the transom.

Belongs to Colin Stoneman.

Royal Navy Offers Support

Great News:

The Royal Navy have just confirmed their total support of the race which carries "Priority One" with them.

They have offered a "Frigate" as a start boat but obviously we need to talk about that one for fairly obvious reasons! Also there will be "Fisheries Protection Vessels" at every port and sweeping up behind the fleet. They are also looking at supplying at each venue two of their rather large mobile display wagons for our and their use. There is also the possibility of their helicopters from Cornwall and Scotland patrolling the fleet in those areas.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

That's great news, and will give em an excuse to fire up the turbines!

If the RB is priority one, what priority would a war be?
