Debenhams
I think Jon that the increased length plus 3 sabres was putting more stress on the boat. The scantlings were the same as the 38/41.Have a St.Baker medallion glassed into the keel of the 31 footer for added comfort, when she starts to creak when rounding the Lizard in a force 6.
That Offshore Unlimted boat is listed as 41ft and Jon is referring to a 38.If you know for sure Mr.Ciao the history of the boat, please let us know. The Stain saga was a warm up compared to a CUV history,so beware if you want to keep your sanity.

Not to mention the feckin ghastly build job done on the boat by the now defunkt Comer Marine. In fact, if I remember correctly, they were defunkt soon after the Debenhams affair.
My comment re: nicely built CUVs vs Debenhams, was a dig at Comer.
I have some photos somewhere from inside the bow section, I'll see if I can find em. It's shocking.
Then there was the now famous drive bustle!! and a large pile of bent & broken Rolla props.

Ere Graham, all your talk of skantlings and structures has got google ads going! we've now got ads for feckin canoe plans running!!
For christs sake don't mention the M*edalions again, you'll get Chaos excited, and google will be running pics of Reggie all day.
PS. please don't now tell me Comer was your company, or your families!

PICCHIOTTI v CUV
Are you referring to that Torbay incident with Alitalia Tim,where they spun and used the chine as a keel.Topsides aren`t quite as strong as a bottom don`t y`know.
Yes Jon, a Reggie size would do nicely.Your photos would give you an idea of the requirement.Works for him at 100 kts +

I think they should make that fine upstanding gentleman the President of the USA...boating free to all no tax, no tax on fuel providing it goes in your Fountain, and a fountain in every Wallmart, boat racing obligatory, and more WIG shops than you could shake a stick at...I like that idea not sure about the wig bit thou

Flying Fish
Absolutely. It`s still there waiting for a dedicated restorer to come to the fore.
Probably the first uk alloy racer built for the modern era.The yanks as usual beat us to it by a year or so.Look in the gallery for more photos of the said craft.Stressed by a jap, engines supplied by D.Shead (Daytona agent),part built by yours truly, sunk by faulty `p` brackets.

Flying Fish
if you want to know the history of Flying Fish you should go to the history section on www.classicoffshore.com there you will read all about her.
Yes stressed by a chap from MITSUBISHI no less but if you watch the film of the 66 race WYNN says she hit something, first time I have heard about P brackets.
The driver of THE FISH was one Mike Trimming and what happened to him in HYDROSONIC SPECIAL approaching Torbay " something ripped out the rudder"
talk about lightning striking twice!!!

P Brackets
Have never seen in all the reports of her sinking a reference to p bkts, but when I made it into the Vosper D.O. the guy working alongside me was the engineering draughtsman on her.He was in close touch with the engineer on board and the story goes that incorrect tolerances on the bolt fixings were to blame for the p bkts coming loose. The photos of her sinking show this guy in the aft hatch in what looks like him trying to see what went wrong.I know Wynne made the statement that it hit something, but in the heat of the moment it makes you wonder how much time there is to make an analysis, when there is carnage in the E.R. bilge.

RB08 Report
Excellent committee meeting yesterday at the RYA chaired by Tim Powell. 56 Questions to get through but we discussed/solved most of the more important ones.
Everything now in place, All Venues secured, Course secured, Fuel secured, Filming secured, Cranes secured, Back up support by Barrus and Suzuki secured. Entrants secured (40) and rising, Trophies secured, pre race parties secured. Still people contacting us regarding taking part and still a million things to do. With the new boats in RB1 and RB2 shortly coming on line this race is going to be quite something. Drivers Meeting still on for the 8th March at 12 noon at Drivers Wharf, Southampton. Again, only those fully paid up RB08 Race Crews will be allowed into that meeting plus Press, Club and Race support members of course. The meeting will form part of the film being made of the RB08.
