If you cut the "snouts" off you don't get your hand so dirty undoing the allen bolt to change the gearbox.

Your email system needs a bit of work....

Quote:
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

race@roundbritain.info
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<race@roundbritain.info>:
host mx0.123-reg.co.uk [195.224.48.126]: 550-Your IP address looks like a dynamic one. Please use your ISP smarthost
550 For further information please visit: http://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/
Firstly, its not a dynamic IP address, it is a static IP address, properly linked to the domain name that the email was sent from, with reverse DNS working ( and tested with DNSSTUFF.COM ).

Secondly, about 20% of the worlds email is sent from dynamically allocated IP addresses - so blocking this would not seem to be the greatest idea ever.

Yes.

OldMan - your email address is protected to prevent SPAM emails. Unfortunately your setup is too far on the side of caution, and you are blocking normal emails.

I quick chat to the people who setup your email system should solve the problem, then perhaps more emails could get to you..

If you read their own support http://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/ they are bouncing emails for many reasons which could be considered absurd. It would be near impossible for most smaller companies who share a single web server to comply with their requirements, and almost nobody with a home server website can comply.

So you can currently only get emails from people like Yahoo.com, msn.com, etc.

The email forwarding is all set at 123-reg's defaults, I wasn't aware there was a problem, and I guess we'll never know any figures for returned mails that may have been usefull enquiries.

As I don't have the time to chase it up, I've changed the email link in the contact page to Mike's email address, which is the one the re-direct was pointing at anyways.

Hopefully this will sort things out.

Ilmor engine info

Just had this information through and thought it might interest those of you who, like me, have never heard of this engine. I know I should have but just haven't.

Hi Mike,

Just log onto www.ilmor.com and enjoy.

Ilmor are originally a British company whose background and current area of expertise is in car racing. They designed and built the Mercedes-Benz Indy and Formula 1 engines and have designed and built the current Honda engine used exclusively in the American Indy car series.

Two years ago they took the Dodge Viper motor and tuned it into a high performance marine engine. As a viable alternative to the Mercury V8s (the Ilmor weighs 400 lbs less than a Mercury!) they have built over 300 units for the American Poker Run market.

They produce 550, 625 and 710 horsepower versions of the 8.3-litre all aluminium motor which has massive torque. I've raced with a pair of 625s in the late season SBI SuperVee Unlimited races and have achieved 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd in consecutive races. That gave us 3rd in both the National and Key West World Championships. A very nice engine and good value at
$86,000 for a pair of 625s.

Regards,
Chris W.

"Ride The White Horses"

Although I have put it on another thread for those who are interested we now have the above 1969 Round Britain film and should have it available shortly in DVD format. It was made by Ford! A great piece of British Powerboat History.

Not a lot of help!

I thought that I would share this with you.
Thinking that they might want to support this historical race in a small way we recently asked a major boat manufacturer – in fact possibly THE major boat manufacturer in this country - to sponsor a Trophy to the value of £250 for the 1st Motor Cruiser to complete the 2008 Round Britain Race. Not a lot of money you would have thought. Surprisingly they have refused on the basis that it would be a “conflict of interest”. In the 1984 Round Britain Race two of their boats came home in the top ten and they used that information in their sales brochures for years.
Another VERY well known boat manufacturer who will remain nameless who we also asked for a similar amount (£250) refused on the basis that “We don’t make boats for racing”. We thought that was a surprising statement as three of their boats took part in 1984 and did extremely well, I actually raced one and won twelve races in it and others have raced over the years in the Cowes –Torquay - Cowes very successfully, (they still run all of that info on their web site). Life is for ever surprising, and a little frustrating.
