Does that mean in 2013 the race will be North Head-Monte Carlo-North Head ?

Clearly our post have been consigned to North Head too, along with those pesky raceboats

Well i might as well put my camera lens's on E-bay now, no amount of magnification will obtain pin sharp images at the start and finish point!

I sent an e-mail yesterday to the Chief exec expressing my displeasure at this decision and recieved a reply from John Puddifoot.I suggest that everyone does the same, it may not change anything but at least it will give them a gauge of the level of anger at their decision.
By the way the gist of the response was that the organisers failed to show compliance with the RYA safety requirements.

Rya
Good idea Rob,
If this situation goes on I can forsee all motor boat clubs forming their own "association" and the RYA lose a rather large income which they impose on the same .
COPC have to insure through them so we certainly could take our business elsewhere, RYA stands for nothing now in the powerboat fraternity it is time everyone reformed under their own banner.
Lets do it or die as the CTC is doing!

Over my dead body!
By the way, I posted late last night quite a strong paragraph on here about the so called start/finish at North Head, having had a little too much sun and too much vino down here in Portimao (should know better at my age but good fun) on reflecting I asked JF to remove it as I wasn't sure if this story was true and until I see the actuality I will hold off posting about it but if it's true then I will revert and post again. Sorry Tony, your post must have been taken off accidently at the same time, my fault i'm afraid.

Is there something every Motor Boat Club in Britain can learn from our American cousins
www.apba-racing.com
The British Powerboat Racing Association, just think of it our own governing body who knows the sport inside out! and we have enough experienced individuals in this country to make it happen, so why isn't it?
WHY ARE WE LETTING THE MINORITY DESTROY THE AIMS OF THE MAJORITY

Carl ! I couldn't agree more, I wanted to help as a safety boat, but I too dont fancy wollowing about if its rough in a 24ft boat for hours, that end of the Solent, it was fine in 2008 when I had a 45 footer, so I think I will follow the run down & then join you for a beer.

Mike,
Sometimes these things need to be said as everyone nowadays has to be so guarded in any form of communication such that we don't upset someone somewhere. I just felt extremely annoyed to think that yet again in the interests of so called safety a decision was made to further alienate the sport of powerboating.
Last year I hired a helicopter so my family could watch the race and record what was a fantastic event, it seems that practically this may well be the only way to watch this race now, not that I am in the least contimplating it again. There is really not much point in my family making the trek to Cowes this year to see what? Perhaps someone else can hire a chopper and make a film then people can spectate from the safety on their own front room, hows that for health and safety?

Cowes Finish
I have spoken to JP this morning.
I will work closely with him & my safety team to ensure we can put on a finish procedure the same as last year.
I will keep this thread updated.

John
I am very pleased to hear this, I appreciate that this is not of your making and that you will do everything you can to achieve what I see this as a minimum requirement to retain any level of interest in this race.
Are the foreign competitors aware of our onerous H&S rules, can't imagine for one minute that having travelled here from wherever and completed the run to Torquay and back they arrive at North head with no one present to witness their achievement. What a let down!
Perhaps Jon could re present my second post from last evening which asked two important questions assuming we are lucky enough to finish, do we:
a) Come off the plane and slowly make our own way back to Cowes wearing full kit and ensure we do do collide with other craft in the Solent or,
b) Come off the plane, mill around until such times as all competitors finish where upon we can all be escorted back to Cowes by a grown up

Now you are talking, as we won't be racing past North head we could remove our helmets and use the run up the Solent to cool down!

You could of course say that the boats being based at Cowes then the start and finish should be as close as possible to that base otherwise it is difficult to make transiting boats accountable to the race organisers.
Should an accident occur on these enforced transits it would be questionabe whether the RYA / HM had been derelict in their duty by forcing high speed vessels out of a designated course.
Also what would happen insurance wise?
It was a question I posed to the PLA some time back when they effectively stated they will not allow racing in their waters. Organisers say that boats are welcome to transit from Tower Bridge under there own jurisdiction making an official start line outside of their waters and all boats can legally travel at race speed towards it however not constrained by any course. As you can imagine no reply was forthcoming.
Similar issue with a Poker run. Would they prefer the event to be organised with constraints placed on vessel operators or just allow a load of boats to turn up on a whim and do as they wish which is quite legal.
