Photographs & Film

There will be 2 x helicopters covering the racing on Sunday.

The first will be covering the Marathon boats to Portland. Chris Davies will be taking the shots, while video footage will be shot in HD.

The second will be covering the Cowes Poole Competitors, still photographs and and video will be shot with a film to be shown later on Sky Sports.

Tim Tapping & Little Nige will be on Red Jet 5, Graham Stevens at Anvil Point - So should have plenty of great shots to show on here!

finally i get an answer, but i thought we had the amount of safety boat the rya wanted to run the start at cowes(im not expecting an answer to that either). well if this is true then thanks mr. puddyfoot,i wonder if it would be different if they ran circuit cats at cowes eh. i know people from the rya read this forum but dont comment, but it would be great to hear it from the horses mouth,to get both sides of the story for the record, but then i guess peeps on here might jump down your throat and not give you a chance. ah well at least the weather is looking ok for sunday at the moment

This all seems to be such a load of crap in light of events in the last few weeks

The Numerous collisions in the Solent and the dramas of the Fastnet (YET AGAIN ) and year after year after year nothing ever changes for the Rag and stick Brigade . They seem to get away with murder when the Spectacle that is the Cowes Torquay Cowes race gets little or no backing from the same association that is quite happy to take all of your dosh on Licences and fees.
And as for the Green Brigade ??? Next time they should be in Cowes and the Solent During Cowes Week , when all those Yachts are pumping their seatoilets and shit tanks straight into the drink and then do a comparison of the pollution at Cowes week and the Cowes Powerboat Festival !!!

Safety Boats

Please note that many of the Classic Rally boats had volunteered their services as safety boats and there will be 22 plus of us there but then we heard nothing more as the start had been moved....

disappointment

just reading the article from the link above.... there has been a lot of talk about safety boats over the last couple of weeks etc... loads of people have agreed to support the race and be out there on the solent for the start to provide support in the own boats and im guessing with there own fuel... to support what is a great event.
The article states there are not enough boats but is the r.y.a doing anything to aid this issue???? are they offering any incentive to anyone to act as a patrol boat / safety boat to keep this event the COWES torquay race...

What is the required amount of safety boats so we know for future reference????

Or is it just another health and safety excuse of the modern times trying to protect the incompetent and mindless minority that spoil it for everyone.

Lets start by telling you what I do know.

1) A Start Chute of at least 5 buoys laid either side to form the "Gasoline Alley",

At least 10 boats either side, a mixture of RIB's & Cruisers. All these boats must be logged by boat type, name and experience of the Skipper. This Safety Net needs to be sent to the RYA Course Approval Committee and approved.

Mark Description Latitude Longitude

Muster Centre of area 50°46.328 N 001°15.506 W
Start Notional line 50°45.250 N 001°22.000 W

2) The run up to the Western Solent.

At least 20 boats patrolling, a mixture of RIB's & Cruisers. All these boats must be logged by boat type, name and experience of the Skipper. This Safety Net needs to be sent to the RYA Course Approval Committee and approved.

3) Once the Safety Net has been approved, these boats must be on station on the day of the Event, otherwise the organisers are for the high jump and if any accident were to occur, the RYA have to report to MAIB & investigations start.

4) In my humble opinion, there is not the appetite (now after much work had been put in and things were analysed - as opposed to lets see if it could work ) from the RYA to see 7 or 8 Race boats travelling in pack at very high speeds towards the Western Solent.

yellowbrick tracking

On the front page of the Event Website, there is a yellowbrick logo.

Just as soon as I have the link to the tracking screen, you will be able to access the tracking data for the CTC from there.

Over 30 boats incl P1 superstock 150 + 250.
In these hardened times 30 boats are to be celebrated - the first ever C-T race had 27 starters, although some entries had either pulled out or were weeded out beforehand !
There have been times over the passed 30 years when we've had far fewer boats in the CTC Race, although they've been backed up by varied Class 3 World or European Championships to make up a larger total of boats.
Part of the trouble is that Sir Max's original challenge was too successful.
What was a great adventure in taking a fast boat from Cowes to Torquay ( & back from 1968) is almost commonplace now. Any Sunseeker, Fairline, Princess or similar can do that without much prospect of trouble.
Its the success of the designs as a result of the early races that have given that advance.
We need to celebrate the fact we have the boats in Cowes this weekend !
Sadly one or two non-starters, due to engine & other problems - B100 Blast Off, & Mr Noisey being two non-starters sadly.

The Times

Misreported in today's Times Newspaper.

Laura Levi, mother of Louis never suggested that the RYA may have "hushed up" the Gee situation at Cowes 2010.
