Ref: cockpit entrance/exit. Does it measure ok with 4 crew, or will you only be able to race with 2?

There must be an open space in the rear of the craft sufficiently large (minimum 1.3m X 1.3m) for all crew to exit the boat immediately.

As I read that a 1.3m square hole is sufficient for "all crew" or am I being thick? (again)

Well it's more time than we had for the first one, but then again it didn't have two diesels in it and it wasn't 34' long - of course we have a lot more "last minute" practise now!

Kittens special turning mechanism born out of motorcycle front brakes and the ram from an engine crane - makes turning everything very controllable.

Extreme tilt to enable laminating of the centre of the mould.

Balsa going on to stiffen the mould and ensure the boat will be as straight as the plug.

By the way if you look carefully you can see the half ping pong ball locations along the flange - worked perfectly!

A bit overdue on an update - we haven't been idle! Some of the photos were taken by our fearless leader during his visit. To give you an idea of how technical building a plug is here is a photo of aligning the turning mechanism, it doesn't have to be much out of spot on to make everything bind, and over the 34' + of the mould that requires some good maths and measuring!

The exoskeleton of the deck mould

The soft wood wedges with a little help from the fork lift!

The half ping pong balls worked a treat!

Unfortunately the cockpit roof decided to stay in the mould, that was removed separately! An idea of how striking and individual the bow of the new boat is going to look - of course the contrasting colours make it look more striking than plain white, but the bow will be unmistakeable as a BananaShark one - we like to stand out in a crowd!

Hull and deck moulds are now being polished and the gelcoat will be going in this week - we still have a lot of work before we can start rigging, but hopefully we will make the race at the end of September!

A big thank you to Timptap who offered his help rigging to get the boat ready for Cowes, as you can see we had bigger problems than getting it rigged - you may still get the call Tim!

Well done on progress so far , Looking forward to seeing the beast run

That bow looks stunning! Love the way the rails meet the chine (if that's the right terminology!)

I'm sure Kitten will have time to get some more done on the steam engine in the winter!

Very happy with how it's going so far - it's a shame we won't be in Cowes but perfection takes time (as you know), and with our limited resources we are going as fast as we can.

Look forward to giving you a race in Weymouth?

Probably not I am afraid as this boat has been built for one race only CTC as I have done all the other classics but not the most famous af all .

My neck having been broken when we fell in a Mother of a hole on the Round the Island off The Nab when in the lead in '89 ( Verterbrae was welded together with a bit of my hip ! )

Primarily built for 'Gastronomic Raids' on the French Coast and Poker runs the boat wil be fitted out fully over the winter as a cruiser / poker runner for 2011.
