Trying not to split hairs here but surely there Is'nt a boat being built soooo far ... It's only the plug for the eventual mould ????

Ok time for some clearup.
Tricky originally came to us with a design concept which we redrew, fiddled with very slightly and built a 1/5 model of to it test. That ran very well but he was not in a position to carry on with the project so we took it over. The fact that he still sees it as his project is fair enough as it was his concept, and would never have even started without him.
Scand got involved to do design work on the look of the boat and on the interior and engine layout ect. We produced the drawings for the final boat and all the structure for the plug which was then CNC laser cut.
We have quite a bit of interest from several parties for completed boats as leisure, race, diesel and petrol versions. At this time no firm orders have been placed, or decisions made as to the fit out of the first boat.
So if you would like to wander into our unit with a sack full of cash now is the time to do it, but don’t leave it too long.

I guess the question everyone is really hankering after is, who owns copyright on the hull and deck designs? Banashark, or Marc & Scand.

And who's financing the build - which I guess definately is Banashark?

Don't worry about that it will probably be splashed in a couple of years

Only if it works! No one would splash a 'pup'.

Only time will tell.

Good question on the design - the agreement with Tricky was we could take everything over from him for a consideration ............. the deck of course was drawn by Scand, and we have an ongoing agreement with him as far as that goes.

Collectively the boat is BananaShark's. We are funding it with the help of some partners who are giving us help with various aspects.

Having worked with Aramat on Jon and Nicks boat, we may use it on the first hull, but as we aren't at the stage of ordering materials we can put off that decision for a while!

The shiny white stuff is just Formica as you would put on your kitchen top, it provides a great hard shiny surface for taking a mould off, and we have used it for some time for making plugs.

I hope that adds to Kittens comments and answers all of the questions?

Thanks Cookee, Ive been looking for some in smallish quantities, as most online people sell it in bulk orrrrrrr a dreaful wood or pebble dashed colour off ebay

Looking at the shape of the hull, its got quite a good and substansive planning pad... How pointy is the pointy end as a result??

thanks gt

I'll put a note on this thread if we have any left over at the end of the job - It cam from International Decorative Surfaces in Swindon - 01793 513181

The pointy end is pointy enough not to slow the boat down in rough conditions, but with enough volume to prevent stuffing I'm sure you understand if I don't want to publish drawings right now (or ever!), but you will be able to see the boat in the flesh later this year in Cowes if we have it done in time!

A bit more progress - the two rear sections of spray rails are now covered in Formica and the curved forward rails are painted and polished, the whole running surface has been polished and the sides are now on and flat and waiting for the "Formica Treatment".

Once all of that is done the next stage will be attaching the flange and making the hull mould, turning it over and starting on the other side.

The boat will be "Seamless" with no rubrail so it will be joined from the inside whilst all being still in the moulds - the first time we will see the finished boat it will come out all joined together!

Crikey Cookee this is one hell of a lot of work without testing it first.

Well we did have the model in the water a fair bit - some video for you:

The design isn't radical enough to be a total disaster, and it isn't designed as an absolute top end boat, but for long distance racing, so we have focused on a high average speed in proper offshore conditions.

Besides do you know where I can buy anything that looks as good as this?

Yes I saw kittens comments earlier on, and it does look the perro's cojones, I just hope the design translates well over scale after such a lot of work.

The sides are and covered in Formica now, just some tidying up to do and polishing of the bits where everything joins up, adding a flange, some waxing (wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off) and then we can lay up the hull mould!

Kitten has now removed surgically the extension on the rear end to make it easier to fit outboards, for inboards it will be fitted at a later stage of the build. I reckon a pair or even triple Verado's would go well on this - of course the big Yamahas would be a good choice as well, although fitting three of those on the slim rear end may be a bit of a squeeze!

I'll be glad when the hull plug is finished, getting fed up with cutting me fingers on the edge of the rails.

Kitten,

I guess you will be pleased when its Rufil time on the deck plug. I am about to order another 40 tins of Easy for ours . Then its more expense with a skipfull of Durabuild at nearly £50 a tin !!

Your plug looks great , Good on yer, and I wish you every success with it.

Mike

PS .

I have the first order for a rib from our hull mould .. With triple 350 Yamahas fitted. Some tool I guess , once sorted and dialled in.

Hi Mike,
Good newsd on the order.
very happy with the way our build is going, hopefully we can cover most of the deck with the laminate as it is all postformable with not too much heat and should be able to take the gentle compound curves that we have got.(slapping on durabuild and then turning three quaters of it into dust is something I always begrudge.)
Hows your deck comming along, the spies seem to have been slacking of late have you run out of bisquits?

That's no way to talk about a valued customer, even if you don't like RIBs!
