yes, velocity is too short for the power (8.2 litre x 2) that it has
haven't looked at the scorpion
Clive Bakers Wellcraft has a Merc 496HO, which is 8.1 litre....too big for RB4 (6.5 litre limit)
Jonathan Rowe, same as above
I'm not certain what tollerance is being allowed on capacities (ie, a bit for reboring etc, usually in the UIM ruling) so 6.8 may well be withing the limit when that rule is applied. Marc is a shrewd player, and WILL have looked into this I'm sure.

Oddly enough, when I was asked on another website why Mr. Noisy hadn't entered my reply was "not enough boat for RB2, too much engine for RB3."

Who exactly is feeding you my info????
Anyway....
The current UIM ruling will allow twice oversize, with a new recommendation from Italy, which will probably be adopted allowing for the oversize to the engine manufacturers largest stock piston. Which - within the UIM rules - will allow a 6.5 litre GM V8 to be oversized to 6.8 litres.
However!!!
Can someone please tell me the penalty for using a FI diesel in class RB4? It is truncated on the website, or missing. What is the maximum sized ( cc )turbo diesel I can have in RB4? Or am I reading the penalty statement incorrectly, and the FI Diesel in RB4 is 6.5 litre?
Thanks.

I see it as a penalty for FI on petrol super class only. Super class petrol the only class that can use FI. All diesels FI.

To be honest, as the rules don't state anything about homoligated engines, or using 'manufacturers spares' like most class's do, I think for these rules (very specific to the RB) 6.5 litre, should mean exactly that, 6.5 litre maximum swept displacement, including any modifications, or rebores, no wrinkles, or rule dodging. It aint in the spirit of this race and the rules wwere writen to be as simple as possible for the scrutineers to police.
No one wants this race to end up as a battle of rule book interpretation, there's enough of that shite in all the other racing.
All finishers that fall into a winning position (1st, 2nd, or 3rd in class) at the end of the race, should be stripped and have the bore & stroke measured, if it exceeds 6.5 (or 8.5 for the big blocks) you're out, cant be simpler than that.
6.5 litre, and 8.5 litre, small block, and big block respectively, keep it simple.

I couldn't agree more.............
I'd like to see a gentleman's agreement NO protests..
Up to the scruitineers to find out if anyone is trying to pull a fast one//// and for those who aren't sure what that means it means cheating..

The maximum capacity in RB4 for a forced induction diesel engine is 6.5 litre.

What about if there's excessive bore wear during the race?
Will there be a rule to bond or seal all engines used during the race? The rules as they stand are fairly clear - however it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility for shady teams to swap a motor out for the last leg or 2.

I think you're only allowed one change of motor(s), and obviously, any motors used, would have engine numbers logged by the officials, and any engines used during your event as a winner, would have to be stripped and checked.
There's a certain level of honesty is needed, as the most devious & financially able competitor can always cheat to some degree without it being easy for the scrutineers to catch them.
This event really needs people to enter into the spirit of winning, by actually winning, and not cheating everyone, including themselves, or playing the pathetic games of winning by rulebook protests and technicalities, such as we see on the regular offshore circuit. Beat the competition on the water, that's what I say, and if someone appears to be playing the rulebook during the event, I'll be the first one to make it public & slag them off on here when I see it!

John, Do you think it would be possible to do as I suggested earlier??
Make EVERY competetor( spelt that wrong!!) sign a document to agree to race as gentlemem and NO PROTESTS, then there can be no bitching and everything comes down to the scruitineers...........
There is no one more honest then ROB

I see it as, you can use two spare engines without having a time penatly, you can rebuild all engines but must use original cylinder block, plus the two spares as many times without penalty.

Have you seen the costs of a custom built engine???
Having one built to my HP specification that matches 6.5 litre capacity and will last 4 hours a day for 9 days is a very expensive thing to do. I dont think I would be able to build two spair engines. I guess I would have the one and cross fingers and hope, and as a fallback have a more or less standard 5.7 smallblock just to enable us to finish if things went wrong.
