Cowes Update

Just a quick update on Cowes.

We are close to publishing our Advance Programme - hopefully next week.

RACING

We have 2 races at Cowes this year for Marathon Boats, The Cowes 100 and The Cowes Torquay Cowes.

The Marathon boats will be competing for the inaugural UIM Marathon World Cup and The Harmsworth Trophy.

The Cowes Poole Cowes race, to be held on the Sunday of the event will be run as a RYA basic race.

SOCIAL

On the social side of things, we have put in place functions for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings.

Competitors & Safety Boat Crew will be given 5 tickets per boat.

There will be no charge for the functions this year.

There will also be a modest fireworks display after Sunday Evening prize giving.

SAFETY BOATS

Safety Boats, will this year have free mooring at the Cowes Yacht Haven from Wednesday until Monday of the event.

As above, Safety Crews will be welcomed to our social functions.

I have ordered today, some nice souvenirs for all safety crew to take home after the event.

Please contact Amanda Raby if you can assist.

Now that bit is done - Let's see Buzzi, Hendricks, Gibbs et al "rag it" across Lyme Bay!

Cowes Poole Cowes

For the RYA Basic race - Cowes Poole Cowes

£150 up to 300 hp

£300 over 300 hp

For this race we have have had interest from Powerboat P1 Superstock, I have also spoken to Four Nations - This may be the only date on the calendar where the old 2009 Honda boats get to race against each other.

Without wanting to spoil the main event down in Torquay, Class 3 boats are very welcome.

Canopy Boats.

Can anyone with a canopy intending to enter this race please let me know soonest.

Television

As most of you are aware, the 2009 Cowes Torquay Cowes, was filmed and subsequently shown on Sky Sports, Motors TV and other channels.

Subject to funding, we have put a similar deal in place for 2010.

Both the Cowes 100 & The Cowes Torquay Cowes will be filmed.

The 2 races will go out on Sky Sports in separate programmes and will be aired on 6 occasions each.

It is also anticipated that Motors TV, some European Stations and ESPN US will air the shows.

Photography

As in 2008 & 2009, we will have a helicopter this year taking shots of you lunatics getting beaten black & blue!

Chris Davies (The Small Photographer) will be once again hanging outside the Castle Air Copter getting the best shots.

50th

and...

It is the 50th year of Offshore Powerboat Racing from Cowes.

A good reason to compete, help with safety or just turn up and celebrate!

Excellent stuff!

Nice to the see Safety guys welcomed properly and included.

Eirik, get that blow up 29 thingy over here for August!

Of course, if you're scared of being beat, you're better off staying at home reminiscing about your 'past' victories.

How can any one stay away from this event.

Well done John and co.

Only a suggestion but once you know the entry numbers and crew how about sorting out space in the dry pits in advance.

1 last thing the bands in the pit bar were brill just a shame no one was there to enjoy

We have the RB08 Marshall Team for this year Tom & Simon - I will put it to them.

The social functions will finish earlier this year, so no excuse not to have a beer or two in the pit bar afterwards.

I have been in Cowes today - Lallows next to the Haven, have ordered extra fuel (petrol and diesel) for boats to refuel on the Saturday for the CTC.

Would love to join in, but we simply don't have the time this summer for Cowes. Anyway, the boat is now for sale so "hopefully" we won't even have a suitable boat in time for Cowes. Look forward to following the race, though.

If anyone wants a Goldfish 29 fully prep'ed and eligable for Cowes, RB11, RB12 etc please PM me. Bear in mind that the Goldfish DMAX engine is no longer eligable for the "normal" marathon classes, so if anyone wants to have a shot at a strong result in a blow up boat ours' fits in nicely under the grandfather clause (and no, that clause has nothing to do with Mike Lloyd ).

CTC Coverage

Just for old times sake this is how it was back in the day (1968).Nine BBC cameras to hand, and no VCR `s then to record the moment!!!!!!!!

A note for Mr.Ciao.

Hopefully the race will attract more media coverage than normal,so it would be handy to know for instance which national newpapers will cover the event. If this is the case ,a post on Boatmad would be most welcome.

To be honest Fish, when Fred Dineage said he was up for it, I reversed into my childhood.

How!
