I thought i would just post a quick note to let people know that if they are looking for a navigator for Cowes this year or pit crew then i am free.
I love Cowes and just want to be involved for the 50th anniversary.
Pete

Invitation Class
For the British Powerboat Festival the ORC has authorised an "Invitation Class" to be allowed to race in the Cowes Poole Cowes and the Cowes Torquay Cowes.
Now I am well aware how this class could subsequently be abused.
Most on here know of the 3 - 4 boats that have been rigged in good faith for this event and for one reason or another do not fit into certain categories, and I feel it is only fair to allow these boats to compete in the 2 races.
The boats will have to meet full UIM Marathon safety and equipment requirements.
The licence criteria; 2 x UIM International Marathon licences and passenger licences for additional crew.
The Invitation boats will not be eligible for points or overall trophies, however 1st, 2nd and 3rd class prizes will be awarded.
Invitation Class is monohull only and entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the BPRC.

Well done and good news - hopefully a few more entries to add to the list yet! Plus a few more for the Marathon classes too.

You chaps should give Roger Severy a shout. I definately won't be nav'ing for him this year unfortunately, having had a bit of a cycling mishap earlier in the year that I'm still recovering from.

What is a Measurement Certificate
So what is a measurement certificate. We have just got ours and the process was a bit of a surprise..... best shared.
For those of us new to powerboat racing.... of which many of us Marathon racers are a measurement certificate is something that thay used to have in the old days. It involves you arranging for a scrutineer to visit your boat to measure the length however it also invloves a full scrutineering (About 1.5hrs) & your boat has to pass all aspects (Number,epirb... all the usual stuff). Please be aware that the scrutineers do this voluntarily so you have to fit in with them, best not left too late ... Lol
Once a scrutineer completes & signs off you measurement form you send it to the RYA along with a cheque for £75 who type the info in to the computer, print it out & send it back to you, this bit was pretty quick about 1 week.
So please be aware that the whole process could take up to 2 weeks to get completed assuming that your boat passes first time
Clearly not required for 2008 or 2009 but gently added to our rules to generate revenue
Hopefully we can non gently kick it in to touch next year
It wouldn't be so bad if the £75 covered the scrutineers costs
