also island harbour marina just past the folly let you camp on there green,its got a pub and the shower block is ok,plus you can get the ferry up and down the river

News -

The good news is that we now have 16 Marathon Boats entered -

The not so good news is only 1 entrant for the CPC Race so far!

Television & Pictures

The Event has managed to fund a helicopter for both the Friday & Sunday races.

As per last year still photographs will be taken from the helicopter by Chris Davies, as well as a television film.

ITV Meridian will be running their 18.00 news programme live from the Cowes Yacht Haven on Thursday 26th August.

ITV Meridian would like to shoot some stock footage of a Marathon Boat or 2 on August 10th - Please PM or email me.

Event

Due to sponsorship, donations, the event is now funded - Competitors & Safety Boat crews will be able to enjoy 5 free social functions & free mooring at the Haven from Wednesday through to Monday Am.

Cowes Yacht Haven

RB12.com have very kindly taken over the commitment of the Cowes Yacht Haven for 2010.

Their plans for the Haven are very exciting! Announcement's will be going out early August on local radio, press etc.

Trophies

Cowes 100, CTC & CPC, some interesting trophies have been purchased for the worthy recipients to take home.

really pleased everything is falling in to place,and looking forward to being there for 4 days or so. hope the cpc race gets more interest,but i must say its a tad expensive,£300 for my boat,i make that about a fiver a mile or so,with fuel and licences,im knocking on the door of £600,and thats without having to buy some more up to date safety equipment

It is costly, but this is 2010, and I can't remember a time when powerboat racing was ever something you could call cheap.

If you spent 600 quid, once a year, to take part in an event like the Cowes 50th, I reckon it's money well spent. What else ya gonna do with it?

Don't spend it, and when you're looking back at 70 years old, I guarantee it'll be the things you DIDN'T do that will piss you off, not the things you did.

thats true enough for sure,but with all the other costs of the weekend, iif i raced(which would be great fun) the total bill would be getting on for £1250-£1500,which funds at the moment do not allow

Unwarranted sarcasm Barry – Although horrendously expensive, filming the race is important not only as an historical record but it also helps some of the fleet with sponsorship and the guys like to see their boats running and certainly the shots that Chris gets from the chopper are just the best. Usually, all of the boats are filmed on the way out but because the chopper is on a time/fuel restriction it is only possible to film the fleet to Portland Bill where it re-fuels and waits for the leaders to return. Then films the first 4/5 boats home. To keep it hovering over the finish line for another hour or so would set the organisers back an awful lot of money which is probably not there. That’s my experience anyway.

Wasn't meant to be.

Even more important then to film all the boats taking part and giving them some air time if it's for historical record.
I understand it's very expensive to film a race and if some individuals are paying for it would it not be best to let everyone know.

I am not involved with the Cowes organisation this year, I am just a competitor like everyone else, so I don't know the answer to your question.

Now this might be old hat info,but the following has appeared on a U.S. website.

The story goes,that Dry Martini (35ft) had a huge hook in it,and they sanded it out.The people that bought the boat from Carlo Bonomi were made aware of this,and should be careful as the bottom near the transom is extremely thin.

Just want you don`t want halfway across Lyme Bay.Wouldn`t want to loose a piece of history.

Time to let that alloy tub loose in the rough Markus!
