Been working hard to get to the startline but no race for me this time.
Everything looked good for a while, with a couple of racepartners from abroad, but I managed to destroy everything all by my self.
The reason is that I blew my left knee, ACL, ligaments etc, on the MX-track about 6 weeks ago.
Yes, I know, its a dangerous sport... backsurgery last year, the other knee ten years ago, left ankle, right shoulder, concussions, right eye, the list is long...
But there is NOTHING better than racing MX!! Not even boatracing...
Now the MX-bike is sold and replaced with a Mountainbike, for rehab and slower riding. At least for a while...
Was still hoping but after a check-up at the artroclinic yesterday the verdict was "at least two more months of rehab before we know if surgery is needed, and no racing!"
Enough time to make it to the Skagerak Across!

That's a shame, Mikko . Get well soon, and hope to see you in Tvedestrand.

With only five weeks to go, any chance of seeing the final fully paid up list of runners Blimp? Also, is it possible that you can PM me with the Race Instructions as it would be good to see start & finish times each day so I can follow the race by tracker.
Congratulations on getting this far. More than I was able to do!
ML.

Please could i ask a question re the safety aspect. Can you tell me if there will be a safety boat following the fleet on each leg and if not what will happen if any boats breakdown in the middle of nowhere Thanks Claire

Claire - the rules on Marathon are very clear. Teams must be self-sufficient. All run with a minimum of two engines so they must be able to limp home, or to an alternate. There isn't a tradition of a dedicated tow vehicle following these races and we're not in a position to start one during the upcoming race.

All,
We were more than shocked to see this release today, especially after we had what we believed to be a very positive meeting with the RYA Race Approvals yesterday in Southampton.
The release is grossly inaccurate and we've requested both a withdrawal and a right-of-reply.
We were told that we'd have sight of a release before it was published yesterday, but we can now see why that wasn't honoured.
The implied suggestion in that email is that we, as organisers, have done nothing regarding the 6 items listed. This could not be further from the truth.
As this matter is potentially very serious, it's possibly best that I say no more at this time.
We meet with our officials tomorrow and our teams on Saturday (all pre-arranged)

It seems that old habits die hard. That sort of press release can only create a lack of confidence in the race and if it's all being dealt with you have to wonder what the agenda is?

I take it the race is no longer on.
Is the only option now to turn it into a poker run after all there heading towards a casino

No reaction from Venture Cup yet so it looks like that's it, according to the PR London and all of the venues had all made immense efforts with festivals laid on etc at every venue on the way down not to mention the effort the teams had made including the awesome looking Martini boat boat from Canada - what a shame, I suppose everyone will be pointing the finger at everyone else and no-one will hold their hands up to this.
