Raises that interesting question doesn't it.
For those unaware, one of the hurdles to overcome to race in French waters is the environmental possibility of a race boat sinking and how it would then be recovered.
I understand that this is also potentially becoming an issue with pleasure craft as well, the insurance needing to demonstrate that your boat would be recovered or the frogs could reject it as valid???
If that boat sunk as a result of having hit a container that hadn't been cleared in the first place the responsibility would sit where exactly?
They didn't seem to be quite as environmentaly sensitive when grandad was over there bombing the shit out of the german navy but I guess times move on.

When we first learned that Goldfish would be racing in a full factory-backed entry, we expected it to be something really special ....and it is. Here's the first glimpse of their beast - 38 foot long .... 1,450 horsepower .... 16,800cc

Thankfully, Alan, they're well into the build ...they just thought an image of the completed boat would be more useful than any in-build shots ....although I'm sure many on here wouldn't mind seeing some of them as well.

You can build a similar boat on their website. Cheaper and faster...

I know that we shouldn't clog up the chatter on here with this stuff but it could be important to those racing as it goes considerably deeper than that. If someone does hit one of these containers which are floating just under the surface 30 miles from land and the race boat sinks how is the owner going to be able to confirm to the "authorities" that they actually hit one?
Also, to be rescued by the French, or the Spanish come to that, I remember John Puddifoot discusing the subject with me saying that it would cost in the region of €25,000's!! It just could be a problem or then again nothing at all, depending on how lucky you are. Also, competitors should be VERY aware of old nets out there. This did cause a major problem with two or three boats in the 1972 race (Dorian Griffith - I think your Parents got caught up in these at the time) and of course it has just got worse. It's all on the "Net" somewhere. Not trying to be scaremongering but people need to be aware and do their research.
Motivator is correct by the way, if your boat sinks in French or Spanish waters then YOU are responsible for arranging for it to be recovered under new EU environmental laws and it HAS to be recovered. Pretty horrific and not one wants to think about.

Yes Mike, my folks came a cropper off Brest in LMC 1972, fishing nets around props!
In fact last year off Portamao I had to go over the side to cut the nets off my Sunseeker Thunderhawk, we were doing about 50 knots and stopped dead when we hit them floating about 6" below the surface, you could not see them and we all nearly fell out!
That is one of the reasons I decided not to do LMC....too risky, and the probability of survival in foreign waters seem slim!

You slightly have to wonder why the organisers of the Cowes Monte Carlo and the London Monte Carlo couldn't find that film for their promo videos?

Thanks for posting and interesting to see.
Is it a new design or a stretched 36? Presumably they are not using the bravo 3 as on the drawing.
Would be good to see more build pics.
