If I were a few years younger and fitter Bob, I would love to be involved. I can't kid myself that even if it were possible to put the considerable cost package together with sponsorship or otherwise that my body could put up with the stress. I already have the broken neck and the spinal damage as witness to far too many years of high speed boating !
It baffles me that Francis can doggedly carry on racing the way he does, I have the greatest respect for his ability and determination. He is an example to us all!
I would really like to build a boat to run in L/MC and I am confident we would stand a chance, it will need the right person to become involved and it could happen.
Do you fancy putting up a 'FEW' quid Bob ? LOL
Mike

So agree with you Mike regarding Francis Eric raced the first leg with him and said how much respect he has for him to do this race he said he was amazing and Eric came home with a black eye but loved the race leg he did do. Claire

So its true then, Francis CAN be quite forceful..............was it a navigational disagreement or did Eric want to do a mid race service ??

I think you'll find it's too big for marathon (50' max UIM length allowing up to around 55' overall), but there is meant to be a Superyacht class although I don't think they're actually going to "race" - it would walk it anyway!

As well as the media and reporting issues i believe to get more boats into this sport you will need to add some kind of incentive for the teams.
You would get more teams and better coverage if the teams could be helped with the running of the races.
I have no idea how teams that are not heavily sponsored afford to run!
Surely the VC team is large enough to twist arms and get some help for these boys.
The days of getting help as a team are long gone in the main and without backing your race will just just become the same boats with the same results.
As a spectator I turned up a Canary Wharf on the Friday, was at Tower bridge for the start Saturday (which I have to say for me was a waste of an early morning ! ) and then went to Brighton to see the boats past the Brighton bouy as well as following on yellow brick, so you had my attention but I would like to have seen more boats.

The problem is that powerboat racing has never been able to make that connection for meaningful sponsorship of an event - even Asif from P1 with a large amount of "Seed money" couldn't get the big players involved. Aidan has some great ideas with technology to make it all more interesting and I think it might work given the increase in interest in Rallying once multiple in car cameras and amazing graphics were introduced.
Time and time again even small amounts of money have helped a class - remember the V24 championships? We went to South Africa for a Class III World Championships for some very cheap shipping and help with the flights so it wouldn't take much - the problem is time is short (only a year!!!!) and the economy isn't exactly in top form.

Just a thought, Wasn't Steve Curtis supposed to have some boats ready to take part in this race? Also, are we allowed to know what happened to the bit from Guernsey to France and beyond?
Amazing racing between Cinzano and Warpath. Such a shame this wasn't filmed, it would have made for riveting viewing.

As I understand it the French made it impossible to comply with their requests so that part of the race was cancelled - it's a shame it happened so late as I know of at least two crews that would have come and raced if there hadn't been a French leg.
First I've heard about Steve putting some boats together - what were they and I would like to hear more?

That's a very interesting description of events. Perhaps an opinion from others who have organised races in the past would be of interest to us mere onlookers. Tim Powell, Mike Lloyd and John Moore. Or perhaps Ray Bulman could be asked to come out of retirement and comment.
Remember the three Round Britain races and the numerous Cowes to Torquay and back again? These races were and are the toughest and most challenging and the most prestigious.
Of course the racers must have found it absorbing and challenging and their bodies and boats feel beaten. Whatever happened to Microlink? It would have been great to see that boat on the water and not just on a trailer. They were in London but didn't appear.
Now London to Monte Carlo in May next year can aspire to being the toughest. Perhaps.

Now that is a question I'm sure we will never get the truth about well that is from the VC commitee! Claire
