Being a statistician, it is interesting to note on the Round Britain races, that 3 or 4 engines, is historically the optimum solution.
On 2 declared runners have more than 2 engines so far - be interesting to see if the statistics prove wrong or right !

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Fabio Buzzi with 4 x FPT or Gordon Compton with 1 x Yanmar?

That Cougar Viper is the best looking R.I.B i have ever seen, i may be a bit biased as to saying that being a Cougar fan, wouldn't want the fuel bill if were to race the LMC though.

Brian Caudwell is worth in the region of £300 million - Not sure he enjoyed the bills either.

Hold your goolies through the Guillot Passage
Why weren't you pinging these photos out during your event last year?
You give all the bollox about "engaging with the public". Blah Blah -
This is the first time I have seen this shot.

Claire - John. Give Aidan some slack. He IS actually trying to organize the powerboatrace of our lifetime.
Not the easiest thing to do. You should know, John...

While I like to think that I'm more than big enough to brush off any personal arrows directed my way, I think it's important that the bigger team effort isn't lost in all of this.
The reality is that no single person could possibly run a powerboat race of any shape or size. This is as true for the Venture Cup as it is for John's running of the CTC, Bob M running his offshore races, Fiona P running Thundercats, and so on. It takes a substantial team effort and this is exactly how our own race is being delivered.
Our core hub consists of myself, Peter Dredge, Robin Hyde, Richard Carlton, Simon Wood Power and Alan Goodwin. Every one on that team is putting in significant work each and every day.
Outside of that we're extremely fortunate to have some really excellent people working in specific areas ....people like Barrie Williams working tirelessly on the ORC, Jean-marie van Lancker smoothing our way in Europe, Colin le Conte proving invaluable in many areas. Javier, Jose and Clara working the Iberian contacts, engineers in Wales working on new technology, venue partners across Europe trying to make each stop memorable, suppliers going beyond the norm to help us, Jeni Jelf at the RYA engaging proactively with our team, race teams innovating (and sacrificing) heavily, our good friends at Edmiston, Preben and Sven Arne delivering invaluable assistance ....and a further cast of many, many more who will continue to positively influence, support and deliver our plans.
This isn't about one person - either delivering an entire event, or not seeing a specific photo. That being true, I'm more than happy to accept any failings on our/my part ......even within the altered reality of Boatmad.
Right then, rant over ....on with the show

It is a shame that Guernsey will not get to see the boats race unless we all trek to Jersey. The GPA over here are doing a great job in promoting racing plus we have the worlds 3a/3b to look forward to. Since losing the class 1 the LMC would be the only chance we have of seeing the bigger boats.
Good luck with the organisation of the race, it is easy for someone to pick faults but it would be better to come up with constructive feedback. Steve

I think most people are, quite rightly, in awe of the work the GPA have been doing recently. We witnessed it ourselves during the Prologue and the Saturday evening racing was spectacular.
While it's true that the Channel Islands 'stop' this time around is Jersey - and this is more of a positive reflection on Jersey's enthusiasm/support than anything negative regarding Guernsey - there is a possibility that some of the race may be routed in around Guernsey (subject to permissions, approvals, etc.)

We have another fascinating blog post from Ray Bulman - this time it explains some of the history behind the start of true Marathon racing and how it's led to this June's epic race. Read it here:
